Stag Beer has been brewing "Golden Quality Since 1851." at the 2001 Great American Beer Festival, that quality was recognized with the Gold Medal as the Best American-Style Lager. Just more proof of what Midwesterners have been saying for years, "Stag Beer makes thirst a pleasure."

You get what you pay for..This beer was pretty bad to me..Ive gone back to drinking nice decent beer. Not this near beer crap that is just horrible...The aroma..made me kinda gag..you could smell all sorts of junk in it..the appearence is just your normal cheap beer apperance..mouthfeel just had a weird feel..foamy..and it just wasnt what I was lookin for....the flavor was ok for a cheap beer..it didnt have the nasty aftertaste to it like some do..but that didnt make up for it..over all it just was nasty...I hated the foam feeling it gave off when you drink it..and it stunk bad...but like I said..you get what you pay for.

I ember drinking this nasty tasting skucky tasting junk back in the 70's . We bought it because it was a dollar a six pack. And because it had a high Abv to get our dumb teenage brains drunk fast.

Pours an extremely clear pale yellow color with a thin fizzy bright white head. There is little head retention. The aroma is basic with pale malt, sweet bread, and a faint floral hop. The taste is also of pale malt, gives a bit of a sweet bread taste, and outside of that not much more. The mouthfeel is thin, dry, and nicely carbonated. Preferred this beer prior to G Heileman buying it. Rating is based on taste prior to G.H. buying the beer.

I would like to throw in my 2 cents on the topic of Stag Beer. I drank almost nothing but Stag in 1970-79 and thoroughly enjoyed its robust, dry and — yes — unique taste. Stag was brewed only in Belleville, Ill. Then in early 1979, the owner closed the brewery and, later that year, sold it to Heileman Brewing Co. Stag was never the same after that. It tasted pretty much like a lot of other Heileman beers: Yellow-colored Alka-Seltzer. Fizzy, with little body or taste. I miss the old Stag Beer — a lot!!!

I have imbibed on Stag beer for 400+ years. I have never had a bad one. Clear, crisp and refreshing. Even if I over-imbibe, I get no headache or nausea. It is very inexpensive and one of my favorites.

No. This is a very disgusting beer. I can bash stag because I know I don't like it. No one can make me like this swill that they call a beer. So if you must drink it, be my guest, but do not come crying to me when you've had enough.

Well to start off, I am the great-grandson of the George Wuller. Now for those of you who know George came up with the name 'Stag' back in the early 1900's. So this beer has been in my family for around a century. Personally, I don't find this beer to be all that spectacular. However, the rest of my family are die-hard Stag drinkers. I have a few cousins that drive beer trucks for the company. This beer will always be a top selling beer around the Belleville area as long my family is around.

Stag has a bad reputation like many of the other reviews have stated. In my neck of the woods Bud Light and Busch are currently the most popular and are generally drank by people who refuse to try anything else. In my personal opinion Stag is a decent tasting, affordable and enjoyable beer. It actually has a "real",not watered down beer taste as opposed to some other popular beers. Ironicallly many people in my region shun and insult Stag, however during the 1950's and early 1960's it was the most popular brand in the St. Louis region, even beating out the king of beers Budweiser.

Stag Beer, Golden Quality Since 1851. This beer has had a bad name for itself, Not the name Stag in general but, it seems to be based for its quality more off rumors than people actually trying it. It my lame area of dwelling, If its not but light, noone drinks it unless they are an alcoholic. People refuse to try anything diffrent, and instantly make comments on anyone drinking anything cheaper then the boring and overrated bud light. Im staring at a glass of Stag Beer right now, noticing it is light, Lighter than the flavor may deplict. Its Brute but enjoyable. People have said Stag taste like its not properly mixed, that all you taste is Barley and Hops, But all I taste is Solid Gold. Its the golden ticket to the Chocolate Factory of Drunks. Its not the best beer in the world but there is no such thing as a Schnitzngiggle brew, And Stag is by no means terrible. Not the best, but if it were the only beer left to purchase, You wouldnt hear a complaint from me
