We like to change our IPA every time we brew it. Sometimes we're looking for a traditional IPA with a nice hoppy aroma and smooth bitter finish while other times we like to go bolder and increase the IBUs and up the ABV between 7-10%. R and D is the best part!

12oz bottle pours copper with off white head. The aroma has assertive tones of buttery caramel malts with a thin vague tartness off in the background. The taste reveals the hops as tart grapefruit that only occasionally poke through the veil of buttery diacetyl. There was just enough malty caremelness and bitter grapefruit to keep this thing from becoming a drain pour.

Nice gift from Michael. Clear copper, off-white lacing foam head. Nice hoppy aroma, citrus notes. Decent bitterness in taste and aftertaste, great. (Velp 201609)

A bright amber colored beer with a big frothy textured, white head rising robustly above. It has great hang time, settling eventually a thick film and ringlet. Caramel malts dominate the nose. Grassy hops dominate the tasting. Dry and crisp. Refreshing.

Shared bottle at RBNAG 2011. ABV 6.2%. Deep amber colour, moderate head. Nice aroma of American hops, also some crystal malts. Decent hoppy flavour, fairly dry, with resinous notes, hints of tropical fruits. Good stuff, easy drinking.

THis was not a bad little beer, quite refreshing actually. That said, not sure it's an IPA by any stretch. It pours a clear orange-red with a snow white head....two hallmarks not known in IPAs. A little bit of citrus hops in the aroma, but mainly grass and spice. Flavour was a tad sweet for an IPA as well, with little in the way of hoppy bitterness....again, too much caramel malt. However, the beer itself is pretty decent....just not an IPA.

Island Hoppin' IPA has an ABV of 6.2%. Color is Amber and average with a head that is slightly off white. The aroma is slightly piney as well is the flavor but perhaps a bit mediciny at the finish. The bitterness may just barely qualify for an IPA, but there is definitely something off with the hop profile. This beer may go better with food, but on its own it was quite lackluster.
