Plums are a diverse group of species, somewhere between 19 and 40 depending on who you ask. We’re only concerned with what we consider the best to brew with– Prunus cocomilia. The Italian plum has beautiful dark skin color and the flesh is perfect for fermentation. We’ll add puréed plums directly to the fermenter where they will add another fermentable component– their residual sugar. The beer will be dry, and have a sweetness derived mainly from the type of malts we use. A bit of the plum flavor will still be present, and it will have a slightly less roasty character than our imperial stouts have had. Hints of plum, hints of coffee from the roasted malt and a thick head. STYLE: Imperial Porter brewed with Italian Plums BREWED SINCE: 2013 FERMENTATION: Ale yeast, two varieties of hops, five types of malts, Italian plums COLOR: Opaque, very dark EFFERVESCENCE: Moderately carbonated NOSE: Earthy, toasted grains, coffee, subtle sweetness FLAVOR: Mild coffee bitterness, a delicate malty sweetness with hints of carmel and a dry finish BITTERNESS: Mild BODY: Medium SERVING TEMPERATURE: 48̊F

Poured out a deep dark almost black color. Small beam of light came through it that was blood red. The aroma has a slight chocolate smell. The mouthfeel is just above average. The taste is of sweet chocolate a little coffee and a hint of bitter fruit.

Loved the deep nose on this beer...lots of roasted toasted malts, light chocolate and coffee, and more plum thatn in the flavor. Really nice combo that tasted good too, just not AS good as it smelled. This would be a solid malty brew with or without the fruit, but the ever so slight flavor, sweetness and hints of tart and another layer.

Pour has a little plum tinge to the dark brown body and a frothy tan head. Very muted aroma of roasted malt and a bit of dark fruit. Good tasting porter with a background taste of Italian(?) plum. Not big on fruit in beer but it seems to work in this case. Medium /full smooth mouthfeel. Not too shabby.

A deep dark brown colored beer with a big sudsy textured, light brown head rising above. There's decent hang time on the head. Medium ringlet and splotches of film left behind. The plum is muted. The profile is roasty malt with coffee-chocolate notes. Full bodied smoothness.

Dark brown pour, nice tan head, ample lacing. Malty, deep roasty and fruity nose and flavor, ripe fruits, plums, light coffee and cocoa, nicely rich and almost creamy as it warms.

Pours a dark black brown topped with a decent head of foam. The nose has cocoa powder, dark chocolate, light coffee, light roasted malts, and dark fruit. The flavor has more of the same, with some mild roast and coffee notes. Overall, quite nice.

This is a very interesting beer, more dominated by coffee flavors and light smoke notes than I would expect. The plums are so subtle I wouldn't know they were there if not for the label. The mouthfeel is a bit light, maybe the fruit sugars fermenting out. Really well made.

Pours a deep, rich sable with a fairly thick, though not too persistent, light tan head. Smoky aroma has notes of coffee and roast malt and just a hint of plum. Strongly smoky flavor has a little more plum, plus earthy, coffee and burnt hops notes. Smooth texture seems a little thicker than most porters, and has a firm woody tingle. Finish is smoky, hoppy and slightly fruity.
