Don't be intimidated by the rich walnut color. This beer is really not heavy at all. It is very smooth with no bitterness, and has a real warming, nut-like flavor and aroma. Brewed to match a traditional English mild, it has carbonation levels that are more American. Our "flagship" brew, it's a very social drink and goes great with all types of food.

When I first tried this years ago i loved it. Its color was nut brown and its flavor was richly nutty. In recent years however it seems to have become watered down, more sour and other than its color, less than what I use to expect.

Courtesy of pfoxyjohn. Pours a deep mahogany brown with a thinning head and some lacing. Some carbonation. Aromas of slightly toasted malts and nuts with very slight hops. Taste is smooth with a balance of toasty and hops.

Sampled from draught: pours a deep mahogany body with a big frothy tan head, with plenty of roasted nuts in the aroma as you can imagine. Rich in flavor with a sweet nutty taste and a soft hop finish. An excellent beer to have as their flagship i would say.

Bottle: A dark amber color with a thin tan head. A slight roasted malt nose and a smooth, faintly nutty malt flavor; finishes pleasantly sweet/sour. An unassuming but nicely crafted version of an English mild. Draught: This is a tasty offering from the solid South Shore Brewery. At the brewpub this poured a good looking amber brown with a light, creamy head. A light malt nose and smooth, full and round on the palate. Flavors are smooth and very nicely balanced; lightly roasted nutty malt and clean, subtle hops. An excellent finish; crisp and nutty.
