Brewers are notorious for refusing to take the easy path. Instead, we lead with our hearts and pursue our passions no matter how difficult the road ahead. Alt Route is a tribute to this stubborn spirit that drove us to dodge the status quo and found breweries. Together we chased the siren song of beer with this revamped take on an antique beer style. Like us, Victory is one of the few brewers with an allegiance to whole-cone hops. They do extensive work with hop flavor, especially focusing on clever and delicious single-hop beers highlighting the same hop grown in different regions. They too share our roots in home brewing and never lost their passion for working with new beers and styles solely for the joy of making something new.

Sampled on 9/1/2014. This altbier pours a dark brown color from a 12oz bottle. Medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is caramel, nutty and sweet, with some grass. A medium bodied altbier. The malts are caramel, earthy and sweet. Some coffee and toffee flavors as well. The hops are herbal and earthy. Decent carbonation. Nice balance. A touch of hop bitterness at the finish. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

A deep amber colored beer with a big frothy textured light tan head rising above. There's decent hang time on that head. It settles into low hanging film and thick ringlet. Malty nose. Same biscuit and grassy profile in the tasting. Medium bodied.

12 oz bottle. Pours ruby amber with a big meringue head that retains well and laces the glass.
The aroma is subdued - grainy leathery malts.
The flavor is grainy nutty malts with a fairly bitter tarry finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with smooth carbonation.
Overall, kind of bland grainy nutty malts with an odd bitter finish. -

Not bad, but just nothing to grab your attention. My least favorite of the 12. Malty slightly raisiny and hoppy nose and flavor. A touch dusty on the nose. Weakfish ending to a great mixer...

Solid all-around for the style. Decent medium brown cloudy appearance. Flavor of wheat, caramel, bread, with a light hop ending. Smooth and drinkable. Not a style that I really prefer unless done right..so this definitely passes.
