Only available at the brewery in Chico, our rauch beer (smoked beer) is a chestnut colored, medium bodied, dry lager. The slight hint of smoke flavor comes in from the use of a small amount of imported smoked barley malt. Perle hops for bittering and Liberty hops for aroma finish this very unique beer offering.

not a "slight hint" of smoke, as they say, but not overpowering either. this was a really pleasant surprise last time i was at the brewery. i liked it more than nearly all their bottled beers. easy drinnking and light, but the flavor is quite complex.

This brew pours with a crystal clear amber body topped by a thin to medium thick, white head with little lacing. It’s slightly sweet and malty with a peaty, smoke note, and a slight underlying hop note. Meidum bodied, slightly dry yet smooth.

I have always really liked this brew. I have felt that other smoke beers go a bit overboard on the "smoke" flavor. While the Sierra version strikes the balance between smoke and traditional brew flavors well.

On tap at BJ’s in Laguna Hills, CA. Pours a clear amber color with a minimal head. I’d say that this beer is lightly smoked, both in the nose and in the flavor. You can certainly get the smokiness, but it’s nowhere near Alaskan Smoked Porter, for example. I like smoked beers, and I thought that this struck a good balance between smokiness, drinkability and mass appeal.
