I'm normally a fan of Sierra Nevada's brews, but this one seemed a little boring. Medium red-brown body with a huge sudsy head like a rootbeer float that leaves the sides of the glass looking like the aftermath of an explosion at a Dutch lace factory. Not much in the way of aroma or taste, other than some hops. Thin mouthfeel with perhaps a little too much carbonation.

This beer pours a nice clearish brown color, that has a nice tan head on it. The head had good retention, and left a decent amount of lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of toasted malts, nuts, chocolate and nice spicy hop. The taste is of toasted malts, a lot of nuttiness, and a nice hop bite. There are also nice notes of bittersweet chocolate and toffee. The finish tastes of Caramel sweetness and some hoppy bitterness as well. The mouthfeel has a nice medium body and moderate carbonation. It is nicely balanced, and there is also a slight tingly feel as well as a bit of a chewy quality to it.

Deep dark red pour with a tan head. Plenty of lace. Mouthfeel was a little thin. The flavor is a bit disappointing due to the strong hop bitterness.

another old entry from old notes .. . brown, murky .. light head, sturdy wispy lacing .. . are germans resilient? .. . an average brown but not impressive, even for Sierra Nevada ..

Comes out of the tap a clear mahogany brown with a thick, fluffy, fine-bubbled cream-colored head. Aroma is malty and spicy with just a hint of caramel. Flavor is malty and has a strong overtone of cinnamon, as well as a hint of yeast and touches of caramel and hops. Texture is very smooth and substantial, just a little tingly and quite satisfying.

ok brown, actually a little hoppier than the style calls for, which can be good or bad depending who you ask. i thought it was so/so...i've had better, but far worse. worth trying if you like the style. 1/10-really boring when sampled with their other stuff.

Bottle courtesy of Monger: Poured a deep brown color ale with a nice foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of caramel malt with light hops. Taste is dominated by caramel and light molasses malt with a clean dry finish with some light hops. Body is pretty full for the style with some good carbonation. I thought this was very good for a style, which is too often boring.

2006 label. Pretty sweet, as to be expected, with a faintly recognizable flash of hops at the very end. I thought this would be a bit more hoppy than it was, considering the brewer. A lot of caramelly sweetness up front. Nicely carbonated. Not much "bite," making this one rather smooth going down. A good beer, but probably not something I'll seek out again.

bold. sweat. you can really taste the barley malt. it has a nice blend of hops, not to much. a nice medium body. it poured a prefect brown color with tan head. a little nutty, like burnt coffee.

Pours a hazey, semi clear brown colour with a medium tan head. Rumbles full of nuttiness, fresh roasted coffee, vanilla and maple syrup. Mouthfeel is moderately carbonated, othewise smooth and creamy- lots of sweet, not overly rich roasted malt and nutty flavors.

Hazy dark amber colour with minor white head. Aroma is malts, hops and caramel. Flavour is malts, grass and slight caramel. Pleasant and easy to drink.
