07.17.04 12oz bottle, courtesy of secret santa. First off, I love the label. Pours a dark burgundy brown. Ample head fades to a lingering trace. Great nutty aromas, hints of coffee, roasty. Not sweet smelling like some browns. Nuttiness really comes through in flavor. Lingering roasted grain flavors, then coffee. Somewhat bland and thin from middle to end, but still solid. Not at all disappointed in my first NM beer.

Medium brown color. Large sized beige foamy head. Aroma is caramel malts and nutty. A medium bodied nut brown ale. Malts are toffee and sweet, slightly nutty. More nuttiness in the aroma than the flavor. Nice balance. Mild flavors. Very drinkable. Smooth tasting. Very drinkable beer. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

The Sierra Blanca Nut Brown poured a light reddish-brown with a thin light tan frothy head that went to a bubbly collar and then disappeared.
Its aroma was roasted malt and chocolate.
The flavor was sweet caramel malt, surprisingly lightly roasted, with a light bitter finish. A little on the bland side. It was fairly smooth, but had low carbonation and was a little thinnish and watery.
Overall, I thought it was a little too sweet, and I expected more roastiness. It was not bad though. It displayed some Scottish Ale qualities. -

I'm not a huge fan of the Nut-Brown Ale. However, when you're sipping this beer at 7,000 feet in the Lincoln National forest, staring at the lights of Ruidoso below, you'll think this was the best beer you ever tasted. It's a caramel brown color, nice lacy bubbles in the glass, and tastes clean and sweet with a nice hops finish. Tastes great with fresh-caught rainbow trout!
