Drawing upon our 150 years of brewing knowledge, we are combining our experience, creativity, and curiosity with these new brews. The Stag Series is collection of innovative and experimental, limited-edition beers to be released periodically throughout the year. The second release in the Stag Series is August Schell's interpretation of a traditional Belgian Farmhouse Ale. This Farmhouse Ale exhibits an earthy/nutty character due to the generous use of Minnesota Wild Rice, the State Grain of Minnesota. The Wild Rice is combined with 2-Row, Munich, Vienna, and a touch of Rye malt to create a complementary backbone to the unique fermentation characteristics of the yeast. Dry and thirst quenching, this Farmhouse Ale is hopped with Goldings.

I have only found this one in the six pack mixes and I have to mix them up in the cooler so I can get just these, though if I make a mistake Schells still has a real good selection. What I think makes them different from other beers in the midwest is their unique yeasty flavor. They dont hold back on it and a love the flavor of it. This is a nice farmhouse ale and has an old fashioned flavor that makes feel like you;re stepping back to prohibition days. The wild rice is barely detectable, and what it gives is some nice lacing to the finish. The schells beer labels are nice too.
