A dark ruby color with brownish foam head, lacing to glass. Aroma is kind of weak. Taste is caramel, but again kind of weak. Aftertaste in contrary is nice bitter, with some chocolate tones. (Conway 201210)

Purchased at Walmart in the States in a tester 6-pack. Pours a dark brown colour with frothy off-white head that stays a while and has great foamy lace. Malty nose of caramel, chocolate and roasted one with hints of yeast. Also malty taste of roasted malts and cherries. All of this pretty mild. A decent schwarzbier but a tad too mild overall.

Poured an almost black in color and produces a medium tan creamy head that dissipated slowly leaving good head lacing. Carbonation was moderate. The armoa was that of moderate roasted grain and caramel with light hints of dark cherry, dried fruit and spices. The taste is somewhat different from the aroma. Heavy dark malts with a light overlay roasted espresso and caramel. The fruits and spices that I noticed in the smell test seemed absent. The mouthfeel was that of a medium body with a somewhat thick, syrupy texture, moderate carbonation and good body lacing that dissipated slowly. The initial flavor was a moderate roasted sweetness accompanied by a hint of bitterness with a lightly bitter finish that lasted for a moderate length of time, leaving a slightly astringent aftertaste.

Wow the apperance of this beer is really nice. Pitch black with a beige head. The aroma contains some chocolate, toffee, and nutmeg. The flavor disappoints with a bit of a watered down taste but you still get some chocolate, marshmallow, coffee. Palate is a bit thin. Overall this had potential to be very good but fell short.

A very good beer especially when comparing it to the selection at my grocery store. I can easily see me buying this one again. Do they offer these in 6 packs, or do you have to but the variety pack?

Thinnish black pour with a small cream head and a bit of lacing. Toasted wet malt aroma with very slight molasses and slight earthy hops. Taste is just a tad thin with a toasted and caramel bisuity flavor.

A deep dark brownish colored beer with a red tinge. The frothy textured tan head rises mightily above. Some hang time settling into light film and soapy ringlet. Caramel malts and a light grassiness rise to the nose. The body is light to medium, smooth and low in carbonation. The roasted, caramel malts are light in the tasting. Light citrus-grassy hops are present. Overall, a pretty good beer.

Pour is almost black with a thin tan head that disappears quickly and leaves no lacing. Aroma is almost non-existent; just a hint of fruit and dark, roasty malt. Smooth mouthfeel and pleasantly mild taste. Mild malt with just enough hops to even things out. Surprisingly enjoyable based on other Saranac beers I've had.

With a name like Black Forest, it's good to be good right? Well, it's just average. A coca cola black pour with a creamy light brown head. The aroma is roasted malt, coffee, and caramel. The flavour is roasted malt, molasses, and a hint of licorice.

A slightly better than average schwarzbier. Pours almost black, but slightly opaque with a two-finger tan head. A nice fruity - cherry - aroma with a chocolate aroma. Slightly bitter finish and well balanced malts and hops.
