Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8
While I normally shy away from the House brews of the San Diego Brewing Company (there is almost always a better selection of fine guest beers, IMO), I picked up a pint of this while watching my Niners get picked apart by the Seahawks Sunday night. The fact that it was being pulled from the Beer Engine of course aided my decision a bit. :)
Adequate appearence, but not much in the way of a head (just some large irregular-sized bubbles from the Beer Engine itself).
Fairly interesting aroma, with the fresh roasted grain/barley nose making this more interesting than I would have first thought.
Same goes for the flavor profile, which was fairly satisfying and appealing. Barley through and through, with only the hints of hops in the finish. Very easy on the mouthfeel, and very easy to drink (the minimal carbonation helps here, I'm sure).
Could perhaps be a little more assertive in the final analysis, but certianly not the dull slouch of a beer that I half-expected. If you can get this fresh, it's worth checking out, me'thinks.
