Fred wanted to go big or go home with his homebrew and decided to brew a unique Sticke Alt. This full-bodied ale has a big, malty character balanced by a subtle orange and grapefruit notes from the hops. With a light amber color, this brew has a sweet finish.

This is one sweet beer! Dark brown pour with a small off-white head. Aroma and taste are all about the sweetness--syrupy molasses, caramel, bread with a touch of booziness. Just a hint of fruity hops in the taste. Too sweet for me. Half a bottle was more than enough.

A deep mahogany colored beer with a moderate foamy textured white head that rises all too briefly above. Settles into a medium ringlet. Syrupy, caramel, fruit profile in nose and in tasting. Full bodied and syrupy on tongue

Sampled on 7/7/2012. This altbier pours a dark brown color from a 12oz bottle. Small sized beige white head with decent retention and nice lacing. The aroma is caramel, malt, sweet and bready. A medium bodied altbier. The malts are caramel, bready and sweet. The hops are herbal and earthy. Decent carbonation. Nice sweet bready malts. Tastes like a dopple sticke. Hides the alcohol well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Strong, malty aroma has a firm and somewhat sugary overtone of horehound and molasses. It pours a clear, dark, bubbly cola brown with a very thick, fine-bubbled, pale tan head that leaves some good lacing. Flavor has a malty core and strong notes of brown sugar and horehound, heavy on the sweetness - maybe a tad or two too heavy. The undertone of hop bitterness and the alcohol nip do not quite balance the sweetness. Subtle citrus hints come through as well. Texture has decent body and fizz, and is a bit sticky. Good one, but next time maybe ease up on the sugar?

All I could think of when this hit my tongue was band-aids and bubble gum. Sticky, syrupy sweet. dark reddish-brown color with a faint head and pronounced lacing. Alcohol nicely masked. The flavor was just hideous.

Aromas of alcohol, wood, syrupy malts and some caramel notes. Mouthfeel is full, smooth, but with a slight stickiness. Flavors mirror the aromas, the 9.3% is noticeable with a sweet malty, and slightly bitter finish. Overall its bigger than a normal alt, interesting.

These longshots are what I wait for....nice mix of homebrew surprises! Thinkin' I like this batch better than the first 6-pack I tried last year. Actually, this could be my favorite of the 6 different longshots that I sampled. Has that Belgian/Euro-feel. Flavor near perfect balance of malty-wheaty-fruity goodness with light hop finish. Hardly notice the 9.3% while drinking. This is something I hope that Sammy brews on a regular or seasonal basis.
