Bold, smoky character with a smooth malty finish. The first thing one notices about a Samuel Adams® Bonfire Rauchbier is the deep smoky flavor which is balanced by a blend of malts that provide hints of caramel & toffee sweetness. Flavor: Rich malt flavors of toffee and caramel, balanced with a smokiness that is ever present but not over powering. A style I'm trying to familiarize myself with and really can't drink a whole bottle quite yet. I do enjoy the first half and then after that it is too overwhelming for me. Dark orange almost brown pour, nice head. Aroma of smoke is dominant. Flavor is smokey with a bit of sweetness to round it out.

I had this beer on Dec. 27 2011. This beer is pretty weak. This beer isn't a rauchbier but rather a slightly smokey porter. It was thin, not smoky, and more caramel than campfire. I will skip this in the future.

Pours a deep dark red with a medium sized off white head that quickly dissipates. There was zero lace on the glass. Definitely a smokey flavor with bbq sauce aftertaste to it with some burnt tones. Not bad.

12oz bottle -
Picked up in the Harvest Collection 12-pack from Sammy. A really underwhelming rauchbier. I was really hoping for something close to Aecht Schlenkerla, but this was far, far from that. This beer pours out a cream soda colored body, clear with a scant white head. Aroma has a light malty aroma, subtle dirty penny and a really light smoke aroma. Flavor has a little more smoke character, but it's subtle with a slightly salty flavor, a little caramel malts but really kept under wraps. Too bad too. I was really hoping for an American beer that's quite smokey and not a stout/porter. -

Holy smoke! Solid orange color, which is not exactly what I was expecting. The aroma is all smoke and it overwhelms the flavor also. It is as if they took the jeans I was wearing around the campfire all weekend and squooshed them into a bottle. Y'know when you come home from a camping trip and you open your pack and you are blasted with the woody aroma of ash and smoke? It's just like that. A bit of BBQ gristle, but not a lot of bacon (which made it very drinkable). A great example of not one of my favorite styles.

pours a nice clear amber orange. the aroma has to be worked for when poured cold, but it opens up eventually. but the first sip popped with nice sweet toffee malt and a sharp kick of smoke that lingered after. nice one from Sam Adams, best beer in the fall mixer.

Part of the Harvest 12-pk - and a nice addition it is. Deep smokey amber color with phenomenal lacing and a very aromatic smokiness that translates into a smokey flavor as well. Felt like a good cigar. Nicely sweet molassess as well. A very well-rounded rauch.

Nice new offering in the Harvest 12 Pack: clear amber pour with a decent cream head. Nice lacing. Mild smoke aromas with a good dose of caramel malts, touch of honey, hint of hops. Taste is also mildly smoky, sweet caramel malts and earthy hops. Clean, easy to drink, tasty, approachable.

Pours a nice dark amber with a decent size head that disappears quickly. Aroma is light to near non existent. Taste is bland with a strong taste of burnt wood. Overall decent, not great. May have again.

When i heard that Sammy was working on releasing a rauch, i got excited, even more so when it was actually staring at me in the mixed 12pk at my local grocery store- so i ripped open a couple of them and here i am .. . pours a deep orange sunset, decent foam .. . good dose of smoke, golden syrup and a kiss of bbq .. . quite smooth, the slightest touch of alcohol and a well made structure of sweetness with the smoke .. . well done, not to intrusive or scary for the normies- just plain good and my new favourite SA brew! .. . Mcnutt, Mcstalling..
