We call this a Red Stout. A very full bodied complex ale brewed with a good amount of oats which help give this Red a very rich and creamy head. The English East Kent Goldings and English Fuggle hops really round out the toffee and caramel flavors.

Pours a deep dark red/copper color with a big foamy white head. Aroma of burnt sugar/caramel and malt. Flavor of caramel and citrusy hops. Not a bad tasting beer.

Sampled on 3/6/2009. This altbier pours a deep amber color from a 22oz bottle. Very large sized off white foamy head, with good retention and nice lacing. The aroma is caramel and fruity, with some floral hops. A medium bodied altbier. The malts are caramel and sweet, with some fruitiness. The hops are very aggressive, citrus, floral and herbal. An extremely hoppy beer. I mean this one would be hoppy for an IPA, but for an altbier it’s sort of overwhelming. I’m not sure it drinkable, or at least I am not enjoying drinking it. I like hops but this is ridiculous. Sorry guys, this one gets a big pass from me. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is crisp and clean. Aftertaste is very bitter.

Ah the roots of beer are being experienced again! Take me to an island and let me swim in the red sea of pleasure! The alt style is not overtop but a simple creature that many do not understand. Stop and smell the palm trees my friends for this life will pass you by. I’m overwhelmed in a sea of dark malty aromas and I’m taken to the Willy Wonka land of candy sugar and sweet goodness in my nose. I also smell some of the local bakery man pulling a fresh roll out of his oven. Now on to letting my tongue loose on this island of precious beer. Ah I am dancing about the island and playing in a sandbox full of caramel goodies and some beautiful dark fruits. I have heard it through the grape vine, the raisins dance thier way into my soul. It is the simple things in life my friends that please my frontal lobe. You may question a name like red stout but I do not. The red reflects the glowing color of my nose as I continue to drink. And Stout!!! Oh ho ho ho the stout is how I am like a short teapot ready to take on this brew. Islands in the brew stream, thats what I am. Cherrios to the oats of this wunderbar brew!
