Saison is the name originally given to refreshing, low-alcohol ales brewed seasonally in farmhouses in Wallonia, the French-speaking region of Belgium, to refresh farm workers during harvest season. As the saison style originated before the advent of refrigeration, Belgian brewers had to brew during the winter to prevent the ale from spoiling during the storage period leading up to the harvest. Because of the lack of potable water, saisons would give the farm hands the hydration they needed without the threat of illness. Additionally, these beers were strongly hopped, as hops act as a preservative and have antiseptic properties.

Bottle from recent oHIo beer haul, Thanksgiving share beer. Deep golden yellow pour, bubbly sustained white head, ample lacing. Fruity meets slight funky in the aromas and flavors, pineapples, nice citrus zest, plenty of floral hops bitter in there too. Very very nice Saison that impressed my brothers-in-law, who are all craft beer friendlies. Winner.

Pours with small light tan head that settles slowly to a thin, almost complete cap and leaves behind nice spotty lacing. The beer itself is the color of burnished copper color. The aroma consists of wweet candy malt with hint of alcohol sweetness which blends/fades into mild hop bitterness. The taste is very mildly sweet malt blends seamlessly into mild hop bitterness. It finishes with lingering layers of candy sugar sweetness and more hop bitterness. The mouthfeel has average carbonation with decent body. This is another great hit from Rockmill Brewery.
