A big beer with big flavor! It has a strong malt backbone with plenty of hop flavor and aroma while remaining smooth and well balanced. This Imperial Lager has a beautiful copper-gold color with a creamy lasting head that leaves an impressive lacing effect in the glass. A strong lager (starkbier is the nomenclature used in Germany) in all senses of the word. The beer is balanced with a hoppy start and finish and a malt backbone so as not to be overly dry. The beer is kind of rare in that it is a single hop beer, meaning that it showcases the hop as the bittering hop, aroma hop, and flavor hop. The hop that is used is a traditional German "nobel" variety, Hallertau Tradition. Beers like these are usually IPA's and are more often than not extreme. This sets our beer apart, it is a drinkable hoppy lager that is formulated for the American palate and is the lager equivalent of a pale ale. The body is medium to full with moderate carbonation and a dark golden to faint copper color.

Listed on the bottle as a Imperial Lager, body is golden orange, the head is no where to be found, minimal-to mid carbonation. Aromas of strong malt, sweet and biscuit. Once the malt aroma settles down you pick up a few hop notes. The taste is mostly sweet malts, bread, honey, and a touch of grassy hops with a slight burn from the alcohol.

I had this beer at Martin's in Roanoke. This beer was quite nice. I enjoyed the other beer brewed by Roanoke Railhouse (Track 1) and figured I'd give the Loose Caboose a go - it was good. I am proud of this local offering. It is clean and not over done on the malt - properly hopped. I will have this beer again. If I was to offer a critique, I would say that it is a tad "tinny" or "metallic" - nothing terrible, but noticeable once the beer warmed up. I had this on draft so I don't know if this problem persists in the bottles as well.
