War is a big, Irish-style red ale brewed with Cherry wood smoked malt, British Amber malt, 2Row Pale ale malt, and Scottish roasted barley malt! Crisp water drawn from our well, and spicy Bravo hops from the Yakima valley growing region round out this wonderfully malty, smoky beer. War: The rider of this second horse is taken to represent War or mass slaughter. His horse's color is red. In some translations, the color is specifically a "fiery" red. This color, as well as the rider's possession of a great sword, suggests blood that is to be spilled.(Hence the reasoning for a red style ale) The second horseman may represent civil war, battle, blaze, burning (hence the significance with smoke) as opposed to the war of conquest that the first horseman is sometimes said to bring. Other commentators have suggested it might also represent persecution of Christians. War will be the second of four brews released centered around the ancient Mayan apocalypse of 2012 signifying worlds end on December 21st. War, a fiery red entity holds significance as being one of the Four Horseman given power to take peace from the earth and to make men slay each other! Please enjoy with close friends and family and covet this special brew until the bitter end. Release Date: Late June 2012 Alcohol by Volume: 6.2% Color: 13SRM (Deep Red/Amber) Style Guideline: Smoked Beer/Irish-scottish 120 Schilling Malts Used: Pale Ale malt, British Amber, Cheery Wood Smoked malt, Scottish Roasted Barley Hops: Bravo Specialty Ingredients: Briess Cherry Wood Smoked Malt Serving Temp: 58F

pours a medium brown that is very clear with a medium sized rocky, khaki colored head forms and disappears quickly. When help up to solid lighting it appears a very deep mahagony color. The aroma is smokey, malty, waxy, caramel, acrid. Reminds me a tad of the bacon smokiness aroma found in Voodoo Maple. The taste has tons of tobacco flavor and smoke. Not sure how they smoked this? The mouthfeel is medium bodied and slightly drying. The beer would have been better without the tobacco flavor, it was way way to overpowering. This is worset beer by this brewery.

A bold smoke nose on a very nice looking, super clear, red beer with thick froth. I do agree with Kinger, its a bit subdued in flavor and the mouth was a touch thin. Still a nice hop presence to a smokey red that I did think had nice balance. Thanks Cory!

Upfront smoked malt accompanied by a medium bodied blend of nutty, fruity, doughy malts. A bit tame for my liking and nothing really perked my interest. Very solid all around, but not worthy of revisiting for the cost.
