As a producer of English Ales we like to keep our ear to the ground, and apparently there is a new fangled method of serving beer. The "Handpump" has been in existence for a couple of years in the UK – but we decided to wait until they perfected the technology before rushing off on a whim and producing a beer for this method of serving. Now, with the Brits having perfected the technology, we would like to introduce you to our first beer designed specifically for the handpump. Inspired by the boldly hoppy Ales of old that were exported from Britain to the furthest corners of her vast and glorious empire, Voyager I.P.A. is a rich satisfying Ale with an emphatic hop bite. We brew this beer with pale ale malt from Canterbury, and small additions of European specialty malts to yield a malt base on which to build its hop edifice. We generously hop it with two Kiwi hop varieties for bitterness then finish it with Fuggles (as a nod to I.P.A.’s British origin) and New Zealand bred Riwaka hops for a spicy floral finish. The result is an ale that will coat your palate with hops and it you will leave you in no doubt that you have had a beer! We say chin, chin old boy! Cheers!

Pours an average amount of foamy heads but goes away fairly quickly. Has an amber/coppery appearance. Has earthy, rusty like hop aromas with some roasted malts. Flavours of malted barley, light caramel and toffee hints with some resin and darker earthy, citrus hops. Also some notes of bready malts and some fairly bitter hops in the finish. Tingling mouthfeel. Nice and crisp bitter sweet balance of hops. Pretty good stuff but not a constant go-to kinda beer.

Third Renaissance of the night, written 6% ABV. on back label. Pours a slightly hazy amber colour with a bubbly warm cap, decent retention and lots of lace. Grassy hops aroma with some heavy grain, mostly caramel, with hints of raisins and wood. Medium-bodied with a slick oily mouthfeel and a very mild dry finish. Again, heavy cereal grains of bread form the base of the taste, with the hop right over it. Pretty close to their English Pale Ale, but not as hoppy, thinking they should probably change their names around for their Pale Ales. Maybe someone played a joke and changed the recipes around.

This is the New Zealand version of the British version of an IPA. A clear amber colured pour with a small tan head, very similar to the MPA had last night. Aroma is more citrusy than piney, with spices and caramel present. Flavour is quite similar to the MPA as well with caramel, citrus, and spices. The flavours in the MPA were definitely 'fuller' however.

1/2liter bottle - opened with a geyser - when it final settled down I got an orange-amber ale with a massive white cap. Impressive nose - spicy floral, sweet malt, some grassiness, citrus, fruity. Fairly well balanced between the spicy bittering hops and the sweet pale malt - clean bitter finish. Very drinkable and a top notch IPA - I was just turned off by the way the bottled version geysers into the glass.

The beer pours translucent copper colour with a long lasting white head. The aroma is citrusy hops, caramel, and some weak spices. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour is citrusy hops, almost grapefruity, sweet malt, and some Asian spices. Quite enjoyable.
