Redhook Double Black Stout

This poured a dark black color with a beige head. The aroma is mainly just coffee and chocolate. The flavor is pretty much the same with a rather bitter finish. The palate is a little thin. Overall not bad for Redhook!

Bottled@The Chriso Gaylord Tasting. Ambery brown colour, not much head. Aroma is roasted malts, some toffee, mild fudgeish notes as well as mild alcohol,. Flavour is coffee, roasted malts, some caramel and mild ashyness as well.

Pours a deep brown, some spotty lacing .. . tastes of weak coffee and blackened tree bark .. . needs to be alot fuller to be really enjoyable for hardcore stout lovers .. but a nice middle of the road beer for people starting out into craft beers . ...No wonder you're upset... She's lovely. And a darling figure... . supple, pouting breasts... firm thighs... It's a shame you two don't get along.

Stouts are something that you can never get enough of, and the craft brewing industry seems to have figured that out. This is a very black beer. There was no head, so I cannot comment. The waft of roasted malt and coffee is all through the room. The taste is bitter but good.

22 oz bottle, batch 08-0410, dated Oct 08 08. Pours brown with a smallish dark brown head that quickly diminishes.

The aroma is very subdued - sweet chocolate and grains with a touch of coffee (probably because I'm looking for it).

The flavor is sweet bakers chocolate and roasted malts with some chalky acidic bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and watery.

Overall, this is not very good. It has a bunch of off-notes, and where's the coffee? I can maybe find a little, but only because I'm looking so hard.

Sampled on 2/20/2008. This stout pours a deep black color from a 22oz bottle. Small sized beige foamy head. Aroma is chocolate and coffee with some roasty malts and sweetness. A medium bodied stout. The malts are chocolate and coffee, with touch of vanilla and fairly sweet. The hops are earth and floral. An interesting stout, the coffee flavors are fairly forward but aren’t as obtrusive as some, there is a lot of sweetness at the finish and middle to balance the coffee bitterness at the start. Nice balance and the carbonation is decent. The memory of the old version of this beer is somewhat the same as the new version, i.e. it tastes about the same. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

If Winter is the time Stouts are introduced, than Winter is my kind of season. Like it’s genre, a deep, opaque blackness greets one on pour. A moderate tannish-white head, soapy in texture sits atop. Disappointingly not much hang time in my glass. Settles into lumps of soapy froth. The aroma caramel and roasted coffee. There is a bitterness on the palate, though not offensive and not overbearing. S moderate body, smooth, this really is a good ale.

Aroma is quite strong and very inviting, like a fine coffee with hints of smoke and toffee, and just a touch of chocolate. Pours a rich opaque sable with a fairly thick dark tan head. Flavor does not disappoint, mouth-filling and surprisingly chocolaty, more like coffee mixed with cocoa than mocha. It has a good smoky overtone and hints of toffee and just a little bit of hop bitterness. It goes down smoothly and leaves a slightly sweet, chocolaty aftertaste.

this reflects a higher grade than i'd ever thought i'd give a Redhook beer, and a lower score than i give most strong stouts. it was just good. nothing special, and there are better beers for the price, or less. the body left a little more to be wanted, and it was a little on the bitter side, and not in the mouth watering hoppy good way.

this is a limited release bottle "db double black stout with coffee". very ballsy, really kicks you in the ass... this is the kind of coffee i like in the morning... when poured it sat with a full body and a full Bernete head. first sip was iffy, but as i kept drinking it turned out to be a delicious treat...
