From the Port City Brewery website's blog - "The thought was to make a version of our own popular porter but make this one bigger and smoky. We both like Bamberger beer, and it is my understanding that all malt used to be smoky, before the invention of pale malt. We evaluated yeast, grain and hops and did three trial brews on the pilot system. The result, available on draft now, manages to triangulate these flavors. Our goal was to balance the smoke with the roast without being too sweet or estery, and I think it worked well. The flavors give a bias to the smoky and dry side so it will mellow with age. Bitterness is relatively high at 50 ibus but with no finishing hop to add any fruitiness, it will remain slightly savory as a smoked beer should be." http://portcitybrewing.com/brewery/blog/two-our-second-anniversary/ No details of ABV, OG, FG or IBU are given at this time. The first tap was last night 2/1/2013 in celebration of their second anniversary!

One of mwiscount's many delicious contributions to our Mardi Gras shindig this year: a growler of Two! Opaque black with a beige film over the top. Aroma and flavor of meaty smoked bacon and charred coffee (without acidity) has a both subtle bitterness and mellow sweetness behind it in a gentle balance. Very fine carbonation, dense and smooth, not very sticky. A hearty brew well-paired with the red beans & rice tonight. UPDATE: Two was available at the Three release and I had to have a glass. This beer is just brilliant. I'm upping its score.

I'm a fan of the Port City Porter, so I was happy to know that TWO was just as yummy, but with a new twist. Creative thinking on PCBC's part. It would pair VERY well with food, especially meat. If you are drinking it without food, it may get tiresome after 1 or 2 snifters. Great way to celebrate another successful year of a beloved local business!

The first taste that hits you is "smoky bacon"! Delicious porter; more robust and "roasty" than Port City Porter. The more I drank this beer the more I liked it! Bitterness is 50 IBUs according to the Port City website, but I didn't mind the bitterness at all. The only "negative" part of this beer story is that it is short-lived, just like the Port City One I also enjoyed February 2012. It's neat how Port City names their limited edition anniversary beers by the number! Cool brew and story!
