I have to agree with Sudsman. Unlike most products produced by Pittsburgh Brewing, Augustiner Dark was actually pretty good. From the bottle, the head leaves good lacing. The color is very dark red to brown with the red viewable when held up to a light. Aromas of coffee emit from the mug. Light chewy coffee and chocolate notes are detectable on the tongue, and are very smooth with a subtle roasty malt character. The aftertaste, though, was kind of watery. All in all, the beer is not bad for a product that comes from the same people who (unfortunately) brought us Iron City.

Even a little better than regular Augustiner, therefore two steps up from Iron city (which doesn’t say much). Amber to dark, medium body, nice flavor like a muted Beck’s Dark – not too bad.

Had this beer out of a keg, wasnt as good as I had hoped but was still drinkable and fairly light with a smooth malt flavor.
