One of the very first Picaroons beers, initially brewed in 1995 when at the time it was considered an “extreme beer.” It was designed by Alan Pugsley and was originally named “Piper’s Best Bitter.”

Bought this one in Edmonston, N.B. when I was on tour with my band. Pours a caramel-orange colour with a huge off-white head, long retention, foamy-cream texture and lacing all-around. Fruity nose with a touch of apples and grapes. Then, after breathing, notes of vanilla, malt and hop present themselves. Beautiful tiny bubble carbonation at an average pace and mouthfeel is wet, but not too watery... meaning, refreshing with a little stickiness and medium-bodied. Nutty and fruity malts, with some light bitterness in the finish and some grain malt in the aftertaste. It even gets hazy near the end of the bottle. Lots of aromas and flavours in this one. Just a wonderful Canadian version of the ESB that I would have anytime (if we could get it here).

A very decent bitter from NB. Very nice attack with more of a smoothness then an english bitter. Nice apperance and aroma. Very nice deep smooth taste with a good aftertaste. Very nice and Recommended.

Bottle courtesy of Okbeer: Poured a cloudy dirty brown color ale with a nice foamy head with some good retention. Aroma of malt with a light floral aroma. Taste is lightly sweet with some subtle floral hops. Body is fuller then expected with some adequate carbonation. Well done session ale that stays within the style parameter.

What an amazing colour! Densely clouded, I can hardly see my finger on the other side. Deeper colour on the top, some lighter orange notes near the bottom. Not much head off the pour, though it's only fair to mention it would form quite quickly with great response to even a gentle swirl of the glass. Heavy and hoppy are the first two words that come to mind. What a bitter! A lively, zesty hop aroma. I can agree to the bottle's claim of 'nuts and toffee' in the flavour - though not strongly. Soft lingerness which leaves the mouth sweet rather than bitter. A little hop kick, great water - well done. A tricky balance they've hit dead on! A rather explosive pale ale, and certainly one of the best Canadian bitters I've ever tried!
