In 2013, Oud Beersel acquired 65 Demi-Muids to mature its Lambic beers on. These oak barrels, each holding 600L and built with thick staves, were mainly used in the wine industry to age Chateauneuf du Pape wine before ending up in our barrel rooms in Beersel. The thicker staves reduce the amount of oxygen absorption as compared to other small barrels, and the result is a much rounder and more tender taste. For the Oude Geuze Barrel Selection Demi-Muids 2021, we selected our very best Demi-Muids that contained Lambic ranging from one- to four-years old, and the final product is beautifully complex beer.

    Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

375 ml corked & caged green bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 6.5%. Slightly hazy golden to orange colour, moderate to small white head. Aroma of brettanomyces / farmhouse, lemons, rustic kitchen and oak. Very sour flavour, nearly too sour for me, notes of brettanomyces, lemons, lactic acid, white wine vinegar and oak.
