Dark brown coloring that almost has a purple hue to it; head was small. Aroma was of smoke, but nowhere near the intensity of the German rauchbiers. Flavor also weighed in far lighter than their German counterparts - malt and hop body to this beer were easily distinguishable through the smoke. Aftertaste was mildly nutty and smokey - a very nice starter for those who have never tried a smoked beer.
