ØLFABRIKKEN INDIA PALE ALE is our interpretation of this british classic. We have chosen to give it a Danish attitude with the addition of large amounts of malted rye. Together with massive (excessive?) quantities of American hops this yields a complex and intensely bitter ale with a spicy bouquet and flavor. Our Rye IPA is based upon a recipe by famed American homebrewer Denny Conn. Extremely cloudy brownish orange colour with a small beige head. Aroma is strong flowery fruity. Sa,e in flavour along with yeast. The flavour was not that balanced though, and quite a disappointment compared to the aroma.

Bottle: Poured a cloudy and hazy dark brown color ale with s mall foamy head with very limited retention. Aroma of bitter malt with some light citrus hops. Taste is a nice mix between light bitter citrus hops with a good backbone of malt. Carbonation is really too low for the style but I thought that the low filtration and the presence of rye was interesting enough and brought something different to a style that has too many clones.

Hazy brown with a samll bubbly white foam. Hoppy and herbal aroma of grass, orange-peels and peaches. Grassy and floral bitter flavour with hints of dark bread. Nice full body. Bitter finish, hints of herbs and cookies.

Cask at Ølbaren, Copenhagen, RBESG. Murky brown colour. Distinctly malty aroma with citrussy hops, notes of balsamico vinegar. Flavour is definitely citrus with some rye bread, decent hoppy bitterness in the finish. Distinctly hoppy aftertaste. Also sampled bottle at RBESG 2005 Grand Tasting. Lovely aroma of hops, hints of rye bread and spices. (9/10) The flavour is dominated by a substantial hoppy bitterness from start to finish, but there’s also a tolerable malty base to balance it. (8/10) (Overall 15/20)
