Envious is a unique beer, a hybrid of many techniques. Its high-gravity malt-fermented base is blended with Michigan pear juice and chardonnay yeast for a second fermentation, before being aged with raspberries and oak. Unlike any style or beer before it, it must be tasted to be appreciated.

Quite nice assuming you can hang with a fruit overtone and a bit of sour undertone. The fruit was a bit overwhelming at first but this melds as it warms and this goes great with food. Imagine it will go well with dessert as well.

I guess I already had this beer at Brother Louis's house, but I don't remember it. Anyway, had this a couple days ago and it was fantastic. Pours a golden brownish. Nice sized head. Aroma was soft pear, honey lambic like nose. Taste was fruity, berries, fairly sweet and ripe mango.

I was not envious of Envious. The meshing of the roasted tones did not sit well with the tart raspberries or the yeast hints. The flavour was at times syrupy sweet, giving the impression that it could be used as cough medicine.

Yet another kinger addition to the Hootenanny tasting lineup: light tea brwon pour with a slight head and some lacing. Caramel malty aroma with fruits, slight sweet and some light tartness, hint of yeasties, almost vinous, very slight oaken vanilla. Taste is not at all overly fruity -mellow is more like it - with requisite fruits from the additions to the brew, but also a pleasant maltiness and wine-like flavors. This one is a really good change-of-pace from the big beers which are getting ready to make a blitzkrieg on my palette. Thanks again Cory.

Really nice mixture of flavors, not your standard fruit beer here. Rich complexity of dark berries, white wine, heavy malts and woody oak. All the flavors blend subtly together into one fine experience.
