Received as a present from a friend after a recent trip to Wisconsin. Pours dark brown with tan head. Some decent lacing. Coffee, chocolate and some roasty notes on the nose. Coffee leads the flavors with roasted malt and just a hint of chocolate. A bit on the thin side. I feels more like an coffee infused brown ale than a stout. Tasty and an easy drinker. Worth a try.

A mysterious murk to a red and deep dark brown beer, thick slightly tan head that doesn't stick around too long but doesn't leave to early either. Aroma is sweet malt and coffee. Mouthfeel is full and thick but light enough that it washes away cleanly. Flavor is more of a sweet stout with a nice long coffee aftertaste.

A very good stout. Pours a black color with a nice thick tan head. Aroma of roasted coffee, chocolate, and caramels. Flavor was the same as the coffee flavoring was a bit smokey but not too over powering. Really enjoyed this beer!

Another New Glarus bites the dust! Pours a dark brown, I mean dark tvail4. Large, very large fluffy mountainous head with fantastic, we are talking lingerie lacing. The mouthfeel was a little too thin however, and this was the only real drawback to me. Flavor and aroma were of the toasted malt and obvious but not over the top coffee. Just more proof that those folks at New Glarus Brewery seem to know what they are doing.

definitely smells and tasted like a dry irish underneath - the thin body being the only drawback of this otherwise very good brew. I was hoping for a BIGGER beer, but the plethora of roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate flavors was nice. Maybe a touch of clove in the aroma too? Good, not great.

Courtesy of pfoxyjohn. This one came at the end of a night of tasting with friends. Super dry! Borders on being a bit too dry for me; I needed a glass of water as I was going along. Strong bitter Black coffee taste. Pours thick and pitch black. Rich coffee and roasted malt aroma. Goes down very smoothly with just the right amount of subtle carbonation. The liquid carries the weight here, not the bubbles. Delicious! Thanks John!

Tasted during the Nor Cal Beer Geek Tasting on 3/11/2009. This sweet stout pours a deep black color from a 12oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is coffee, some more coffee then some chocolate and a touch of vanilla. A medium bodied Sweet stout. The malts are roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. The hops are earthy. Very intense, but very good coffee flavors. As per usual for New Glarus beers, this one is very nicely balanced. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Bottle courtesy of pfoxyjohn. This pours a very dark brown color into my New Glarus glass (also from pfoxyjohn!) with a thick initial tan head. Nice lacing. The aroma is mostly coffee and some roasty notes. The flavor is pretty much on par with the aroma, dominant flavor is coffee, obviously no surprise, with some roasted malt and mild bitterness. The flavor seems stronger upfront than in the finish which is mellow. Solid brew.

Still another Wisconsin winner from New Glarus and phishpond. Pours brown-black with a nice tan head leaving tons of lacing. Good carbonation. Total agreement with philbertgodphrey as it smells just like a cold cup of black coffee. Taste is more of the same coffee, slightly sweet and creamy, very slightly nutty and a dry hops finish. Great if you like coffee. Thanks for another New Glarus jewel Travis.
