First brewed in Tacuba, Mexico in 1925, Modelo Negra, formerly Negra Modelo, is a medium-bodied lager with slow-roasted caramel malts brewed for a rich, smooth taste. Brewed longer to enhance its flavors, Modelo Negra redefines "Dark Beer" because it is exceptionally drinkable and remarkably smooth. This Munich Dunkel-style Lager is brewed with galena and super galena hops as well as caramel malt, black malt and two and six row malt barley. These ingredients are meticulously brewed together to give Modelo Negra that bright, rich, amber hue and that iconic, medium-bodied flavor.

I tried this beer on February 11, 2010 at "Smokeless Joe's" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a translucent reddish-brown colour with a 1" light tan head. The aroma was sweet malt, caramel, and some weak hop tones. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was sweet malt, sour grain, and a slight staleness.

Rated Nov. 2006. Pours deep copper with thin tan head. The aroma offers up sweet malts. The taste provides a mild caramel malt flavor with a hint of hops around the edges. Thin watery body.

355 ml bottle, as Negra Modelo, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 5.4%. Clear copper to amber colour, moderate off-white head. Strong aroma of caramel, treacle and brown bread. Smooth flavour, notes of malts, brown bread and caramel, sweet but not extreme, low bitterness. Pleasant to drink.

Pours out medium brown in color with a slightly tan head. There is much to smell all far a aroma.the mouthfeel is thin and the taste is pretty bland not much going on.

I had this beer at Alejandro's in Salem, Va. Let's put it this way, it's a Mexican beer that went well with a burrito. Other than that it's an unremarkable Mexican lager ... Meh. There are better options but it was the best option here.

355 ml capped bottle; as a 5.3 % ABV. Poured a clear ruby-brown coloured Amber Lager with a short one finger beige foamy head that had a mid-sized retention and tons of micro bubbles. Soft carbonation. Poor lacing. The aroma is light toasted malts, dried fruits, nuts and a similar sourish fruits feeling, even on a very soft way, as for a Belgian Gueuze, ( curious !). The flavour is mild toasted malts, caramel, mild dried fruits, nuts, almonds and a vague hoppy touch. The mouthfeel is round, quite smooth and the texture watery. This light to medium bodied Amber Lager has a dry malty finish. Surely more convincing by a sunny day on a Mexican beach as, tasted, here, by a cold day, in the Old Europe.

One of the richest tasting, most robust beers I tasted that evening in January in Houston. A complex beer, some caramel and chocolate flavors. Again only wished they had poured it in a glass.

Comes out of the tap a barely translucent copper-brown with a decent pale tan head. Malty aroma has a fruity hint (but this might have come from the obligatory slice of lime). Flavor is better than I expected, malty and strong with a firm fruity undertone - quite tasty. Texture has good body and plenty of fizz. One of the best Mexican beers I have tried.

One of the better Mexican beers I've had but only because it isn't a crappy adjunct lager. Unfortunately, that doesn't say too much--this is still rather plain but with some toasty malts that pair well with spicy Mexican food.

I have had this a couple of times both with Mexican food, Overall this is nothing special It is pale yellow with a white head It has a grain and malt taste that tastes like beer. The mouthfeel is the key player. The carbonation is just right to pair very well with mexican food while not filling you up. I don't care for this by itself but with Mex it is great.
