One of my favorites. Am enjoying a 22 right now as I write this review after an hour of snow blowing. Cheap and tasty. Good summer or winter. Not as hoppy as they say, yet, just right for me. Like scotch whisky, you either love it or hate it. Sipping on a bottle playing golf on a hot afternoon is like paradise on earth. I know that I am in the minority, yet I will keep drinking it because I like it.

Bottle under the Boatswain Double IPA moniker. Aroma is fruity and floral with soft malt notes. Taste is very fruity with berry notes, light citrus, floral hops and sweet malt. Body is medium with a moderate, bubbly carbonation. Finishes with more fruity notes, berries, light citrus, sweet malt, floral hops and a touch of caramel.

Had as Boatswain Double IPA. Aroma is fairly strong and hoppy, with a hint of sour citrus, but not remarkable. It pours a clear amber with a so-so pale head that doesn’t last too long. Flavor is hoppy, a little bitter, just slightly fruity, barely says it’s an IPA - let alone a double IPA. Texture is smooth and firm, none too fizzy, though it leaves a hoppy and woody finish and a persistent tingle on the lips. Fair to middlin’ and leanin’ towards fair. Give it a try anyway.

This beer pours thin and murky with a meager head that quickly dissipates. It smells like latex and tastes of grass and petroleum distillates. The mouthfeel is too thin for an IPA let alone a "double IPA"... what the hell is a "double IPA" anyway? There is a bitter, chemical finish. How someone would choose to brew this beer on purpose is beyond me. This beer's only redeeming quality is that it's cheap. UPDATE! This beer ruined my weekend. The morning after consuming this swill, I awoke to a throbbing headache, nausea, and violent, explosive diarrhea. You have been warned!

I sampled the Boatswain Double IPA, which my friend brought back with the Chocolate Stout. This is quite possibly the worst DIPA I have ever had in my life. Tastes like apple juice, and the the texture is like an overripe, mealy, nearly rotten macintosh. I nearly choked on it when I sampled it. It is sickeningly sweet to boot. I don't know where the 75 IBUs are; I can't taste any of them. The aftertaste is extremely cloying. The problem with drinking one beer at a time is that one want to wash the taste out of your mouth, but all you have in your hand is the same crap that you are trying to forget.

a friend figured these new Trader Joe's offerings were worth a shot. Some are...this one...not so much. Without looking I'd have to assume this is the worst double ipa i've ever had. not totally offensive, but pretty weak in every aspect. hops evident, but not incredibly aromatic, or citrusy, or bitter. just a weak attempt, cheap, light, even if it was a single. a little soap too...the two of us did not quite finish the bomber.

Interesting to see this beer from Rhinelander, a known cheap terrible pilsner. I had to give it a shot. Pours murky with decent head. Aroma is sour, dank but not in a scary way. Mouthfeel is full but by no means is it a true imperial mouthfeel. Flavor is unique I would say. Not as hoppy or sweet as it should be, some sourness, grass and metallic resin. I can't say its a good version of the style but for the price and the name its gotta be tried.

Holy hell. This was instant drainpour. I don't what went wrong, but it tasted like shit. Soapy sour dirty mess. I hope to God this was a bad bottle, because if it's not, Rhinelander Brewing is not going to be seeing my money ever again.
