A “lovely rich blond beer with a beautiful white head and long lingering hop finish,” Grapefruit League is an ale brewed using Cascade hops that impart a strong grapefruit-like aroma and flavour. Bringing the beer out in the last week of February when Grapefruit League Major League Baseball is starting meant that the name was almost predetermined!

Wine bottle (750ml) from Central City. Took forever, including the wife's Global paring knife to get the THICK wax off the swing-top so I could pour the bastard! Mill Street - do you NOT want me to drink this beer? Orange pour, slight haze, and a ring-creating small ecru head; second pour gave more head. Nice enough aroma, grapefruit and pine with malt undertones. Smooth mouth yet not all that substantial. Flavour echoed the aroma, i.e., not bad. Less bitter at the finish than I'd have liked, but still not bad. Would avoid in the future just because of that inane waxing.

Growler from the Ottawa brewpub. Pours a clear amber colour with a frothy warm cap, good retention and thick creamy lace. Nice hoppy hose with the grapefruit-pine mix, and some caramel malts. The mouthfeel is pretty hoppy, but not really dry. Kind of a bitter grassy-alcohol taste, almost chemically. Maybe like a bunch of citrus zest, but lacking the malt in the flavours. Just hints of burnt ones in the background. Smells good, but the taste has to be balanced a bit more. Thankfully get better as I drink it.

Got a growler from the brewpub. Pours a very large frothy off white head and has a clear golden appearance. Leaves some sticky lace. Mild grapefruit and citrus hop aromas are quite apparent. Flavours are fairly sweet, definitely notes of grapefruit, not too abundant and overwhelming but finds a nice balance. Citrus and floral hops to compliment the grapefruit. Also some caramel malts, mostly in the finish. Good balance of sweetness and bitterness. Good stuff!
