We’re also very, very fussy about our raspberries too. Well, we couldn’t very well be fussy about one type of fruit and then throw caution to the wind with the other. That wouldn’t work at all. What does work, on the other hand, is the 100% Glen Ample raspberries that we pick for Melville’s Raspberry Craft Lager. We don’t actually pick them ourselves, they’re picked by raspberry expert folk who are as into raspberries as we are to beer.

Single from the LCBO. Pour a clean amber-red colour with a creamy off-white (slightly yellow and pink) head, good retention and some dirty lace. Mild aromas of raspberry juice and rusty water. The taste is really sweet though, with the fruit being light again. Some light grain lingers, after some sourness that helps the big sugar mouth. Still, not enough to save this over-sweet fruit beer.

Pours a small amount of fizzy head. Has a pinkish light amber appearance, looks like juice. Weak lacing. Aromas are mild raspberry and barley malts. Flavours are fairly mild, mainly raspberry with slight sourness. Mouthfeel is sort of fizzy tingling. Medium carbonation. A bit too sweet but still not too bad.
