Dogfish Head superstar – Sam Calagione, will be our fearless collaborator! The result – a beer-epiphany never before innovated called Liquid Breadfruit! To celebrate the cornucopia of a Maui-grown harvest, we will ingeniously combine local breadfruit (or ulu) & toasted papaya seeds into the recipe of an imperial golden ale fermented using Dogfish Head’s DNA ( Delaware-Native-Ale) yeast.

Shared can with KnoxBeerCrew member Matt. Cloudy orange golden pour with a bubbly head and minimal lacing. Decent carbonation. Light fruity aroma and flavors, some squash and pumpkinseed flavor and nose, floral hops, pineapple. Different if anything. Still refreshing though. Thanks Matt.

12 oz can. Pours a hazy golden orange with a big meringue white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is wit-like with some tropical fruit and funky yeast and pepper.

The flavor is earthy yeast with light tropical fruits and some peppery spices. There's some phenolic bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with slightly sharp carbonation.

Overall, it's more yeasty than fruity but a bit phenolic.

Sampled on 3/18/2013. This fruit beer pours a very hazy pineapple orange gold color from a 12oz can. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity and sweet, earthy and floral. A medium bodied fruit beer. The malts are fruity and sweet, tropical and bready. The hops are floral and citrusy. Good carbonation. Interesting combination of flavors, some fruity, some earthy and a hint of tartness. Certainly not your typical fruit beer, of course they aren’t using the typical fruits either… Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly tart.

Collaboration with Dogfish Head. Tasted and smells more like the typical yeast and spiciness of a dogfish brew. Light bread, Papaya like fruitiness. Good, but not a standout.

This pours a hazy, cloudy yellowish brown color with a large mid lived off white head. The smells are bready, malty, semi sweet a hint of peach and papaya. The feel is medium, mid carbonation. The taste is okay, you get a very unmasked alcohol taste which overpowers everything else, once you get past all of the alcohol you get some mild fruit, bread malts and a slight bitterness. Not sure what to think, its not really flavorful or is its because its overpowered by the booze? probably a bit of both. Not recommended.
