SJ BevMo
Aroma - grainy/lemony aroma with a light dried fruit/musty aroma
Appearance - dark golden body, slight haze to it, light carbonation present, bright white 1/2" head
Taste - light sweetness, iced tea-like character...kinda green tasting, like gnawing on a tree branch
Palate - light bodied, medium carbonation
Overall - a bit better than their IPA, but that’s not really saying much. Easy to pass on. -

Yeah, I know the label says "MataVeza Brewing Co.," but following the address on the label brings up the above information, revealing that it is really made by Medocino. As far as APA goes, this isn't bad, except that yerba mate apparently tastes sour and horrible. I can taste a decent APA under the herbal infusion dying to escape. Pours a cloudy golden yellow with no head. Smells funky and barnyard-like. You can have your natural caffiene; I wouldn't try this again.

Will I ever sleep again?
Poured out weak dark gold / orange brew with a small white crown and weak lacing. The aroma is pretty heavy on the citrus hops with the standard grapefruit and apricot smell to go along with the wackiness that is yerba mate - sharp veggies and herbal hints both are very odd. The taste is wacky. DO NOT TAKE BIG SWIGS! Wow. What a bizarre mouth full of grapefruit and herb... can't describe flavor. Like eating a tree. I don't drink tea so I have no idea if this is tea like. There is a bit of caramel I think. Somehow I have not vomited yet and find myself consuming the entire bottle. The odd herb / veggie taste just gets more and more prominent. Finely carbonated, sort of smooth despite the growing, overwhelming flavor. We will see where I'm at in an hour after pretty much chugging 650ml of this stuff. I've had more offensive spiced beers that much better tasting but not as easy to slam. -

Not exactly sure what Yerba mate is but makes beer taste like tree sap. Light copper body with a thin film of foam on top that lasted three seconds. Aroma is combination of poplar branches, grass, and wild rose hips boiled together (this is something I make once a year and it has a very distinctive smell) I think ginger is also in here. Flavor is lacking and when I say lacking I mean there is no flavor. Ok I let the beer warm up to room temp and now some flavor is coming through. Poplar sap, grass, lemon, a slight hop bite, clean tasting with no lingering after taste. Very unique brew never had anything remotely like it before, it was a good one to try but I don’t see myself ever wanting to stock this in my fridge.

Very unique brew that uses tea leaves in their brewing process. I tried this one at the brewery and was very impressed by the taste of this one. Great citrus and black tea taste. Loved it.

An orange appearance with little head present. An herbal and citrus aroma. I’m not sure what the hell yerba mate is but this tastes like chewing on grass blades. Some lemons also present in the flavor. This is an odd one but ok I guess.

This spice ale pours a deep orange gold color from a 22oz bottle. Medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is spicy, tea, caramel, floral and earthy. A medium bodied ale. Malts are caramel and not very sweet. Hops are earthy and bitter. Lot of black tea and earthy flavors. Kind of bitter and astringent, citrusy and earthy. Mostly an interplay between the tea and the malts, This is interesting enough to try a couple of time, but I don’t think I would want to drink it regularly. Its sort of growing on me and NOT in a good way. It gets more metallic and bitter as it warms. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is bitter.
