2019 Description The dark caramel, large dense headed brew, with its 8.8% alcoholic content, is unique due to its sweet notes of chocolate and coffee interspersed into a foundation of dark roasted barley. Symbolic black to denote leadership, power, focus and strength, is dominant in the labeling as the lion journeys in the twilight unafraid, unbowed and unchallengedXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX 2005 Description 8.0% ABV

330 ml bottle, bought at Selfridge’s, London. Label says for some reason "Lion Dark Beer" in stead of "Lion Stout", but there’s no doubt that this is the very same beer. Otherwise the label is exactly the same, so is the ABV and the characteristics of the beer. Pitch black colour, impenetrable for light. Large and thick brown head. A real beauty! Excellent aroma of various types of wood, tar, leather, tobacco. Full and rich flavour where the roastiness and hops are perfectly balanced with the velvety sweetness. Extremely drinkable. It’s debatable whether "the perfect stout" exists, but the Lion must be pretty close!

Courtesy of Degarth. Pours deep darkness with thin mocha head. The mild aroma has fruity esters, roasty malts and a level of burnt maltiness. The taste starts with roasty to burnt malts followed by sweet molasses, some chocolate malts and licorice. The mix works well and trends into the finish and leaves a malty to burnt maltiness into the after taste. Very nice.

Dark black ruby with light brown lacing lasting foam head. Nice strong bitter coffee aroma, therefor bit disappointing taste, little weak. Nice coffee aftertaste. Good beer. (Velp 201412)

Excellent taste of smokey roasted malts, chocolate, licorice and dark fruits. Roasted malt and fruity aroma. Quality stuff at a good price which makes it easy to keep coming back to.

The one I'm drinking has a different label and is 8.8 abv. The aroma is of dark soil and pours pitch black with a thick tan head that lingers. The mouthfeel is solid. The taste is of rich malt and chocolate.

Chilled to about 15C. Very smoky aroma. Tan head that lasted several minutes. Smooth in the mouth. Strong flavours that seem to be overpowered by the smokyness. I could taste a slight coffee/earthy flavour to it. Not so bitter after taste. Not good with a meal. Probably good by itself or light snack.

Pours a dark black/brown with an off white, 2 finger head. Aroma is of roasted malts and alcohol. i just could not stop sniffing this beer like it was cocain or something, somthing out of this world. The body is very dark andalows no light to even come close to penetrating it. taste is very exotic and is very typical of an extra, but this one takes it to another level. Very smooth with a nice malty taste to it. Finishes off with a taste that wants to give something extra. Overall an excelent brew that is very suprising coming from a part of the worl not known for anything but crap beer. This beer is absolutly delightful!

Not a super fan of stouts. The beer pours a nice dark brown almost black with a nice brownish head that stays around for a short time. Aroma has a intense fruityness with hints of coffee. The beer has a dense molassess-like body and starts with a rich, dark, sweet malt flavor that becomes dry and bitter with a hint of roasted coffee and bitter chocolate. I was very surpised how good this beer was especially when you consider it was made in Asia and not the stout capital of the world Europe.

The finest beer in Asia. Hides the alcohol well. Lots of roasted malt, coffee, and dark fruit makes this an extremely pleasant treat. Highly recommended and spot on style according to BJCP guidelines.

I picked this beer up as part of a mixer from Roanoke's Wine Gourmet. This beer was VERY good and has been on my "must try" stout list for some time. The flavor was bold, malty, and had hints of chocolate. The only real criticism I have is that it was a tad thin. Other than that, this beer was very good. I highly recommend picking this up.

A nice sweet malty, chocolate, licorice aroma finishing with a slight bit of alcohol. A good creamy mouthfeel, taste is a bit lighter than I was expecting. There is a smoky flavor to the beer with chocolate and malt, very interesting.
