Fruity, refreshing, and touched with malt sweetness, Whistling Pig Hefeweizen is a bright reward for days under the sun. Crisp yet easygoing, Whistling Pig is an unfiltered wheat bier. Its classically cloudy appearance characterizes the best German hefeweizens. That a hefe this authentic is born in the great Pacific Northwest makes Whistling Pig Hefeweizen all the more delightful.

Aroma is wheaty and yeasty with a snip of fruit, not strong but still appealing. It pours a typical straw yellow with minimal white head. Flavor, though, is pleasing, wheaty and fruity - mainly apple - and enjoyable, if not complex. Texture is a bit on the watery side, but fairly fizzy and leaving a nice tangy finish. This is not a beer that I will actively seek out, but it was worth a fair shake.

A rich amber colored beer with a medium creamy textured, white head rising above. There's some hang time. Settles eventually into a medium ringlet and thick film as you tilt the glass. A faint nose of wheat. Light bodied, some smoothness. There's a lot of particulates dancing in the beer. A light, wheat, citrus-grass tasting. Pretty refreshing.

Pours light only slightly hazy golden-orange with virtually no head. Aromas of banana, clove (lightly) and used motor oil. Oddly sweetly slick to the pallette. Flavor is more skunky Euro-pils than hefe. Bad bottle? Perhaps, but I'm reluctant to try another any time soon.

This was one of the beers I tried at the Oregon Garden Brewfest a couple weeks ago. Had a cloudy orange body with hardly any head. Spicy malt aroma. Light-medium body, spicy, and almost rye-like flavor. Just ok.
