Lake of Bays India Pale Ale is a moderately hopped IPA with an emphasis on hop flavour and aroma. It has a pleasing malt character with notes of caramel and roasted barley to balance out the hops. All in all, a refined take on this popular North American style. The aim with the IPA, as with all of our beers, is for it to represent a superb example within the IPA category.

Has a nice size frothy egg-shell coloured head and has a deep amber/coppery appearance. Fairly weak lacing. Mild subtle aromas of roasted malts, light nutty malts as well. A bit toasty too with some notes of earthy hops. Mild citrus hops, some spices but not too much, sweet bready malts. Some hints of caramel and even a bit of toffee. Pretty smooth, creamy wet mouthfeel. lively carbonation. Medium bodied. Really smooth and not bitter at all compared to many other IPA's. Perfect for someone not into super hoppy bitterness.

Good looking beer. Long lasting head retention and nice lacing. Appearance is its best point. Subdued aroma and flavour of caramel malt, banana and some earthiness. Well balanced but just an average English style IPA. Why in a 750 ml bottle?

had this in the cellar , finally got around to it -750ml bottle: puts a lightly hazed amber ale in the glass. Fair retention of a stiky 1 finger cap. Aroma is Piney-citrus-floral over cramel -cereal tones, a little under stated for a micro IPA. Flavor has a good balance of chewy caramel malt and resinous hopping in the frint then the palate goes dry with a long clean bittering in the finish. Metalic after taste. Very flavourful ale for the low ABV at 6%. Lower alcohol makes this a more drinkable IPA if you want a few on the patio - I assume this is what the brewer was after because most traditinal IPAs come in at 6.5-7% ABV. A decent brew for sipping but rather 2 dimensional.

Big brown wine-looking bottle that does not look like other LB brews. Pours a deep amber colour with a big creamy, off-white head that goes down slow and leaves thick lace. Big hoppy nose with the grapefruit predominant and notes of caramel malt and soap (after breathing). Very smooth velvety texture. The caramel malt comes out more in the taste though. Mild bitterness in the finish and slightly dry. An IPA that is just a tad hoppier than average, but because of this, goes down smoothly and for those who like the caramel malt and its mild sweetness.

Drank with beercronic at my stag. Great company. Beer was great, Pine, Sap, bitter orange zest, medium bodied, slightly above average beer. But some was left in the bottle by accident, and when we returned to it later, it had become the most awesome, pineapple, kiwi and peach smelling IPA I have ever encountered, become one of the highlights of the night!

Atrium on Bay LCBO Outlet (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
May 5, 2012
I tried this beer after purchasing from the Atrium on Bay LCBO outlet in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a translucent golden red colour with a 1" rocky tan coloured head. Plenty of effervescence. The aroma is citrusy hops, yeast, spices, and grass. Not a lot of sweet malts. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, and medium carbonation. Flavour is kind of muted and blah....weak citrusy hops and weak malt.
