This special ale is, in reality, the exhumation of the very first ale we ever brewed way,way back, in 1993...brewed with a big head, a muscular malty thorax, a silky texture and all strung together with a hoppy sweet nerve sack. Yum!

355 ml bottle, will soon be available at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 7.8%, OG 1072, IBU 54.2. Red (or reddish brown) colour, moderate off-white head. Pleasant fruity (berries, dark dried fruits) and malty aroma with some caramel notes. The flavour is distinctly malty, again with some caramel notes, without being overly sweet. Fruity and resinous hops with a firm bitterness in the finish.

Pours clear auburn with a thick and frothy, if not long-lasting, pale buff head. Woody hops and fresh malt battle it for the top spot in the aroma, while hints of caramel and clove gladly sit on the sidelines. Flavor steps boldly onto the palate, presenting woody, hoppy, malt and caramel tones, while hints of clove and hay tag along. Body is on the firm side, as is the lasting fizz. So glad they resurrected this one!

A rather pungent herbal/ pine and citrus hop presence that really picks up in the flavor. Some sweet caramel and toffee malts as well, the alchol is slightly noticeable in the middle and finish. Overall its a good imperial red, but not my favorite.

A decent amber ale, even if the ABV is a tad high. The colour is more golden-brown than red in this case though. More caramel malt, floral hops, and resinous scents in this one. Flavour is very mellow with a hint of caramel to go with the grains.

Bottle: Poured a bright amber color ale with a relatively small foamy head with average retention and not much lacing. Aroma of citrus hops is not bad but pretty standard compared to some other West Coats hop bomb. Taste is also dominated by loads of citrus and piney hops and a medium caramel malt backbone. Not the most interesting beer out there.

Oh, God! My mother, she woke me up today. She poured a hot pan of grease all over my chest and my ass and genitals and I fell down the stairs and my shoes fell off.

What does that have to do with ANYTHING?

Because I can't see damn it, you son of a bitch!

I haven't really had too many "red" ales to compare this too, besides Rogues Red & Dry Hopped as well as Killians. I had the impression from the label that this is a red ale, but has more of a brown appearance...I guess like an brown ale, or indian brown. Tastes like a cross between an IPA and red ale though, but flavor a little on the bitter side. Could be better balanced for my taste, but hey, it's their recipe. Good overall beer, just don't know if I'd buy a 6-pack of it. Was a gift, and happy to try, but thought it could and would be a bit better................Updated 9/23/09- Grabbed a single of this to have a 2nd try. Starting to get more into Lagunitas. Enjoying it a bit more this time around. I like the flavor, I like the balance. Change my opinion and would buy again.

similar to red rocket (bear republic) in that this can be a really full flavored, super hoppy (and really good) ale...if it's not spoiled. inconsistencies have led me to pass this one up on the shelf lately. it can be really tasty, though.

Yet another solid beer from Lagunitas that is well hopped. Aroma is caramel malty with a whiff of pine and floral hops following. Amber colored with a thin off-white frothy head. The hops at first seem mostly piney and resinous with then some grapefruit kicking in. Nice malt content too, caramel and toffee flavors and a bit sweet tasting. This is very good right across the board.

Another stab at the brew list of Lagunitas. This ale presents a clear ruby red color. The off white-slightly tan head is weak, though with little lacing. This is a H.O.P. brew. Very floral in the nose. Citrus and bitter and floral on the tongue. But with that said, this is not a bad thing. This is a very drinkable ale, a good match with many foods.
