Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7
It pours deep amber with lasting off white head. The aroma rushes out of the glass with oak wood, oak spice and vanilla. Well behind those notes are thin layers of caramel malts and dark roasted malts. The taste is similar with bold oak wood notes and spicy oak followed by faint levels of sweet vanilla, some molasses, caramel malts, dark roasted malts and earthiness that attempt to temper the big oakiness. The oak is a bit too forward here and seems to smother the great taste of the Helm’s beer notes.
