very roasted, almost like a dry stout. unfortunately we had this as a taster right before Pipeline (w/Kona coffee)...that one is so much richer that this one seemed boring in comparison. solid effort, though, if it were to stand on it's own.

This porter pours a deep black color with some reddish highlights from a 12oz bottle. Medium sized tan foamy head. Aroma is malty and roasty, some chocolate and a touch sweet. A medium bodied porter, Malts are chocolate and coffee, touch of sweet malt and vanilla flavors. Hops are slightly earthy. Nice balance. Good roasty and chocolate malts. Perhaps a touch watery, Mouthfeel is a touch thin. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

I normally don't think about dark beers when it's sunny and hot outside, but this was part of the four-beer sampler set that I started off my day. And a lovely way to get the day going, too!
Near-black and near-opaque, with a nice creamy head of foam everlasting on top. Hints of coffee (Kona?) and roasted grain in the nose, too. So, it looks good, and smells good -- what about the taste?
Aces there, too, IMO. At times filling in the mouth, and later light(er) and easy to down, but never was this not a tasty American-style Porter -- reminded me of Anchor's venerable porter, especially in light of the bitterness (35 IBU's, reportedly).
A very satisfying and well-done Porter, that I can see ordering up full pints of on a regular basis (if for no other reason than to provide some variety from all of the other fascianting Kona brewpub offerings...!). Recommended.

Good, strong visual presentation of lace formation and head; fresh, nutty, chocolate warmth and aroma; a deep , dark secretive beer that holds fast a deep whisper of cold, dark mainland evenings not oft felt in The Islands; good entry and mouthfeel; a hazelnut like finish with a good, lasting impression. exceptional balance nad smoothness brings a taste of dark northern warmth to our sunny Hawaii Kai skies.
