Kelpie Seaweed Ale

It was good ... A solid stout, but more like a porter as it was on the thinner side. Some brine, but overall, a nice beer. There were some chocolate notes and the color was a medium brown. Not bad at all.

Had a flash back to my hippie days when I saw the seaweed label, so i had to give it a try, was surprised it was brewed in Scotland. I had low expectations on the drinkability of this beer but over all was pleasantly surprised. I enjoy a smokey and malty bev. with a dark brown color, with a head that stays around for a while. a nice pleasant ale

My second order at World of Beer. A black colored beer with a small, creamy textured white head rising briefly above. The name is a bit of a misnomer and may have people looking for something it is not. Yeah it is smokey in nose and taste. As well as a pinch of saltiness, though no where near overwhelming. It is, as it warms mostly about chocolate. It is a little lighter body than I’d prefer. But the tastes more than make up up for that. I was pleasantly surprised.

Apr. 2010 - Didn’t read the bottle, so I was expecting this to be a lighter. Dark pour, smallish head. As described on the bottle, a "chocolate ale". Lots of chocolate, but not overly sweet, with some roast. I really didn’t detect any seaweek, but I still pretty much liked it.

Has a very interesting aroma - malty and also salty. (Well, it is made with seaweed!) Beautiful deep, nearly opaque brown with a thick, tan head. Flavor is superb - rich, malty, with some sea tang and a hint of molasses. The finish is a little watery, but overall this is a very pleasant ale, smooth and distinctive.

It pours out a very very dark brown with thin tan head and some lace. Aroma of roasted malts, light hops, seaweed I guess, raisins/dates, light citrus, and mild spices. The mouthfeel is smooth, rich, and full-bodied. Flavors of roasted chocolate malts, citrus, light hops, seaweed I guess, light molasses, and mild spices. Good, but nothing special, I just think it tastes like a stout.

An unusual stout in ways I can't put my finger on. It isn't the seaweed/kelp, that didn't really come into it. It had a slight burnt taste which is good.

had with stu+mel .. . smells of peat and chocolate .. . dark stuff .. . earth, chocolate, tar, and peat flavours .. . scottish .. light and mellow .. . better than most would expect... an interesting take .. .

ours a nice dark brown with a good tan head. Aroma is faint but of chocolate. Mouthfeel a bit watery, but the flavor makes up for it. I didn't get any seaweed in mine, just a good solid beer.

Interesting in it's own right. Kelpie Seaweed has a thin tan head that evaps in a hurry into the clear dark brown hue. Aromas, believe it or not, of the ocean, salt air and shell fish are what grabbed my attention. Kelpie has a semi sweet maltiness to it with some dark caramel & chocolate overtones. It's lighter than most dark ales. I could not taste any seaweed, however. Oh well, pour me a pint of Skull Splitter, laddy!
