Jopen Johannieter is brewed with a large amount of roasted wheat malt. Discover a surprisingly full taste where the burnt bitterness balances with sweet notes of chocolate, caramel, raisins and red fruit. The name of the beer comes from the Johannite monastery that stood in the center of Haarlem. The monks brewed beer for their guests and for their own use. The buildings are now in use by the Noord-Hollands Archief where the old brewery labels of Haarlem are stored.

Shared bottle at local tasting, from Voldby Købmandsgaard. ABV is 9%. Dark brown colour, rich beige head. Moderate but nice aroma, malty with hints of dark bread and banana. Pleasant flavour of chocolate and banana, smooth and very drinkable. Low bitterness. Will buy again.
