The porter is the grandfather of the stout. Ours is a light to medium bodied ale, smooth and dark with some hop character and notes of coffee and chocolate in the finish.

the bar is set awful high in this style by fullers, but this is pretty dang good, and one of Jack Russells better brews. malted chocolate and roasted malt abound. thin, but flavorful and aromatic.

Yet another well-made beer from this tiny brewery in the Sierra Nevada foothills.

Appearences and the Aroma of this one is spot-on for the style -- black as night, with a rocky layer of uneven cream-colored foam..., with a ton of lacing later on down the line. After my last few beers, it's nice to find a beer with some sort of gumption in the carbonation and head retention game. Nice nose to this one, too.

The roastiness of this one shines through from the very first sip on. Of course, whether this would be Roasted Grain and Black Patent Grain can be debated (both find their way in both Stouts and Porters, and both have their historical precedents on how they "should" be made). Regardless of the nitty-gritty, this is a very well-made beer, that has quite a bit to say for itself, especially considering the modest 5%ABV this is sportin'.

Nice and easy to down -- would imagine this from a firkin would be something even more special to behold and savor. But as it is, very easy and sessionable, and poundable, but also rewards folks who slow down to savor this, too. Recommended.

London Porter pours black, with a nice chocolate brown head and lace; the body is light to medium. The nose is chocolate and toasted grains with a hint of the hop flowers. The first taste is rich roasted malt, the middle is semi sweet and chocolatety, and the finish is hop spicy and slightly dry, with a lingering aftertaste. Some what more robust than most porters, with a relatively light body. The hops, black patent malts give a kick, that’s very enjoyable. This beer is a Porter and Stout lovers dream, so if you've not had the pleasure, try it out you will be pleased.
