Pluff mud [plŭff-mŭd], noun, A mixture of dirt and water indigenous to the marshes of the South Carolina Lowcountry, with a distinct odor that’s endearing to locals, but off-putting to tourists and redcoats. Our second flagship beer was an effort to bring the American Porter style to the Charleston market proper, while also making a beer that stays appealing as the mercury rises. We think we’ve succeeded in Pluff Mud Porter. It presents (and smells) like a classic porter, with subtle chocolate notes and a silky finish, but the medium body and tame ABV keep it refreshing at all times. Enjoy this throughout the year, in or out of the marsh. Pluff Mud makes its way into bourbon barrels roughly once a year. Keep your eyes (and nostrils) peeled. Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8
Pours dark chocolate brown with a thick and persistent tan head. Aroma delivers anemic but still tempting roast malt, chocolate and caramel tones. Flavor is definitely bolder, presenting chocolate, roast malt, caramel and molasses tones. Mouthfeel presents firm body and good fizz. Get pluff, but if you get too muddy, please contact Lyft or Uber.

My son-in-law brought this back from a recent trip to South Carolina. Pours dark brown with a small tan head that quickly disappears. Aromas of roasted malt and chocolate dominate. Roasted malt and chocolate are the dominate flavors. There is ample carbonation, but it's a bit thin on the mouthfeel. This beer started out on the right foot with aroma and appearance but the end of the journey did not fair quite as well. Not a bad beer, but a rather pedestrian porter to my palette. Would like to try their bourbon barrel aged version, but probably will not get the opportunity.
