I poured this into a glass to better appreciate it. Color is a nice golden with a very thick head. Aroma is strong and malty, but not complex - rather typical of a lager. Flavor is mostly malty and fairly bitter; finish is smooth. Not an exceptional or exciting beer, but worth a try.

Clear yellow with quickly dissapearing white foam head. Aroma is quite malty, so is taste. Bit carbonating, bit sparkling. Nice bitter aftertaste . (Velp 201212)

330 ml bottle, as Estrella Galicia Premium Lager, from REMA 1000. ABV in Norway is 4.7%. It has the black & red label of the ordinary Estrella Galicia, not the green label of Estrella Galicia Pilsen (which is 4.7% ABV even in Spain). To make further confusion, the label says in Spanish that it contains gluten (which is logical, as the beer contains barley malt), while there is also a sticker in Norwegian, saying that the beer is gluten free. I suspect the Norwegian importer may have misunderstood something here ... At any rate, the gluten content is probably fairly low, as maize (corn) is also an ingredient. Pale golden colour, large to moderate white head, nice lacing. Heineken-like "skunky" and grassy aroma (which I can’t say I find offensive), hints of citrus. Initially a fairly clean and crisp flavour ( I drank it very cold), with a distinct and rather sharp and unpleasant bitterness in the finish, metallic in the aftertaste. Little hop flavour besides the bitterness. Not a great beer, but I’d probably prefer it if the only alternatives were the blandest of Spanish supermarket pale lagers.

Sampled on 9/30/2011. This Pale Lager pours a medium orange gold color from a 33cl bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head, with decent lacing. The aroma is cereal, grainy, hoppy and sweet. A light to medium bodied Pale Lager. The malts are cereal, fruity and sweet. Some apple and straw. The hops are slightly spicy and floral. Mild carbonation. Kind of watery tasting. As it is a European Pale Lager I have to comment that there is NO skunking. Kind of bland. Mouthfeel is thin. Finish is clean, crisp and dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Pours a light yellow with an ample white head and decent lacing. Good carbonation. Aromas of slight hops, some malts. Taste is thin and somewhat watery with a malt-corn taste and a slight hops finish.

A golden color with a white soapy head. The aroma contains some freshly cut grass, lemons, and corn. The flavor is on the dry side but certainly not hoppy with some lemons and corn. In the 104F heat we are having lately this would be refreshing but really not good for much else.

My best friend just returned from Spain and while there he said that the two most popular beers in Spain were San Miquel and this one. So in an effort to see what the Spaniards are drinking, I popped the top on this and gave it a go. Aroma was lightly skunked, corn flakes and suprisingly a hop aroma (albeit very weak). Appearance was yellow, clear and fizzy. Mouthfeel was light, clean. Flavor was mostly corn and malts. Nothing bad, but I don't see the appeal. Well, I do see the appeal because it's inoffensive, nearly tasteless and reminded me of the BMC swill here in the States. So this must be the Swill of Spain. Yea for me.

Just. Plain. Weak. No head or lace. Aroma of corn and old hops. Golden liquid with ample chill haze and a touch of oxidized flakes. This beer was just plain weak, cross Spain off the passport, please.

I kinda had high hopes for this one, to be honest. After a rather lame Alhambra, this one looked a lot better coming out the glass -- and was the only beer of the last few I've had that had a valid "Best Before" date (e.g. SEP04 for this one). So in theory this should blow away Alhambra, and it's obvious dead-on-arrival characteristics, yes?
Um, no....
A bit livelier in the pour -- actually produced a fair amount of foam, and later some respectable lacing. And this also smelled a bit better than "Ill-hambra" -- something weird called "hops" were actually present in this beer's aroma, if you can imagine that!
But for the flavor.... Ugh. More of the same soapy/medicinal vibe that I picked up one beer past. Very unappealing. Not horrible in the traditional sense of the word. But just plain "yuk" -- that's the technical term for it, mind you....;)
Remind me to avoid the local beers, if I happen to find myself anywhere in Spain in the near future. If this beer is any indication, I think they have a better racket going on with their wine industry...
