I love when you open a door or turn a corner and realize there is an entire world that you’d never imagined existed, that’s in fact overflowing with people, schemes, and action. 2010 Sacred Species #3 seemed so obvious-Grapes. Noah’s first vineyard debacle (Genesis 9:20) to Dionysus, mythical Bacchus to Bar Mitzvah bad boys, Mogen David and Manischewitz. Appropriately Epic shtick. How many cups of Concord in childhood and many times have I heard: "But Jews don’t drink beer!" This year we came across the raging debates, alternative science, internet controversy and tribal rivalry of World Records relating to Š Grapes. Speed catching (67 in one minute, 1189 in 30 minutes!); Solo throw, run, catch (40 ft!!); Longest distance (354’4", shot from a water balloon launcher!!!); Greatest Height record (788 ft skyscraper!!!!) For this third incarnation of Rejewvenator I’m simply letting the mythological and pop cultural shtick rest and slurping together with all of you in a toast to this bizarre and delicious freakshow that we call Life... L’Chaim! Editor's note: This beer is brewed/bottled by Mendocino Brewing @ Olde Saratoga Brewing, NY.

It pours a dark brown, amber, and burnt-orange with a 1/2-inch thick light-tan head and fairly copious lacing. An aroma of caramel malts, light hops, orange, brown sugar, bread and yeast, graham cracker, and light spice. The mouthfeel is smooth and rich. Flavors of caramel malts, hops, orange and other citrus components, brown sugar, dark wine, bread and yeast, graham crackers, and spices. Interesting .. and very good!

Another featured on tap at the Alchemy just the other day. Pours a reddish amber, slightly hazey colour with an off white head. Aroma is distinct of hops, grapes and caramel. Taste is just the same, however more noticeable alcohol coming through. Semi-sweet, a little spicey toward the finish. Decent brew, but one was enough for me.

Another great beer from He’Brew. Rich dark malts, light Concord grape juice notes, molasses, slightly spicy actually. Molasses and raisin puree play nicely with the grape juice addition. Tootsie Rolls, caramel, and spice cake also show up along with what seems like a Belgian yeast note that keeps taking me back to Maudite. -

This was a really tasty and rather different beer. The grape was present as like a side note, an interesting character addition. The aftertaste was full of sweet grape juice, but it was not cloying at all. The "main" beer had a rock solid balance of malt and hops, a feature of HeBrew beers that I really enjoy. Color poured out a beautiful mahogany with a light, light tan head. Glad I could share this with a couple of friends.

Pours a beautiful dark clear copper-mahogany with a substantial, if not long-lasting, pale tan head. Aroma is rich and malty with hints of hops and an undertone of red wine. Mouth-filling malty flavor has yeasty and grape hints as well as a bit of hoppy bitterness and a subtle barleywine-like nip. Texture is smooth with a nice little fizz that leaves behind a subtle tingle.

22 oz bottle. Pours a hazy light brown that looks slightly purplish and has a smallish off-white head that quickly diminishes to a dusting.
The aroma is sweet figgy caramel malts, candy sugar, sweet grape juice and wood.
The flavor is sweet grapes with some vinous alcohol and some off bitter notes (card-boardy). The fruitiness fades as it warms and figgy caramel malts become more pronounced. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation and is a bit watery.
Overall, an interesting idea. It's a bit watery and I didn't care for the flavors much - it just wasn't too interesting. -

Sampled on 7/23/2010. This fruit beer pours a reddish amber color from a 22oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head, with nice lacing. The aroma is fruity and sweet, grapes and yeast. A medium to full bodied fruit beer. The malts are caramel, fruity and sweet. The hops are floral and earthy. A lot of Concord grape flavors and it does add a whole bunch of sweetness to the caramel malts, but it still tastes like beer. Nice balance. Good carbonation. Very smooth tasting. Mouthfeel is full round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
