01.15.05 Sample thanks to Eyedrinkale at Heavyweight open house. Cola brown pour with very little head. Sweet aromas of brandy, chocolate, caramel. Palate seemed a bit thin but soft. The oat character shows itself most in the flavor where it’s like whiskey soaked beer candy with chocolate and buttercreme.

This was such a surprising beer. It said oatmeal stout and I was thinking your typical chunky, dark, coffeeish stout with maybe a little sweetness. Instead it had that overripe fruitiness of many imperial stouts going on with the slightest hint of coffee. This is also one of the few beers I've ever had that you could actually taste the oatmeal, although it came off tasting kind of nougat-like instead of oatmeal-like. Very tasty beer, though. One turn-off was toward the end of the bottle when these large slimy slug-like chunks of what I'm assuming was yeast slid out of the bottle. Beer didn't taste bad though, so I think the yeast was just acting weird.

Dark black color. Small white foamy head. Aroma is chocolate and dark fruit. A full-bodied Oatmeal stout. Malts are choclately and sweet. Hops are slightly spicy. A nicely balanced stout. Smooth and creamy. Nice undertones of dark fruits and coffee. A touch of caramelized sugar in the finish. A very nice, smooth oatmeal stout. This would be a great starter stout. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Wow this is a marvelous looking beer poured into my pint mug..black..solid black even held to the light no other colours appear..small tan head..lingers a while. Nice smell of roasted malts and oats..very fresh. mmm nice tasting beer..sweet smooth buttery maltiness at first..then an actual taste of oatmeal, after that a bitter bite..a while after the swallow a nice belly warming occcurs. Very good feel on the palate..smooth as a babys butt. A very nice warming stout..bordering on Imperial IMO..good drink.

Poored an opaque black color with a medium sized tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of anise, roasted oats, and chocolate. Whiskey up front, more chocolate and roast in the finish. Creamy mouthfeel.

Black appearance. Flavor was chocolate, milk, raisins, oatmeal. A very sweet tasting beer. But one of the better oatmeal stouts I have sampled
