Double IPAs are hoppier, maltier and have more alcohol compared to their little siblings, standard IPAs. Hercules Double IPA is not for the faint of heart. It is, however, fit for the gods. Hercules Double IPA delivers a huge amount of hops from start to finish. Its hefty backbone of nutty, malt character balances its assertive hop profile. Hercules Double IPA is 9.1% alcohol by volume and 85 International Bittering Units (IBUs).

I don't know if I didn't 'get' this or what. I was far from impressed (bottle was dated August 2010). It was good, but not great. My first true disappointment. I tried this beer on December 22, 2010 at "Bar Volo" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a hazy golden orange in a tulip glass with a half inch tan head and quite a bit of effervescence. The aroma was pine, citrus hops, and some sweet malt hints. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was weak malt, heavy grapefruity hops, but not very well balanced

Freeing my inner Prometheus... Wish List beer. Fresh too: Bottled Date Nov 1 2013. Perfect copper pour, medium to short creamy white head, copious amounts of lacing. Pine, grapefruit, caramel, pineapple all in the nose and palate, nice linger and noticeable alcohol bite, especially after it warms a touch. The malts presence is huge as are the hops. Massive IPA - worthy. Hercules! Hercules!

Hazy amber colour pour. Would have liked the thick off-white head to stick around a little longer but it does leave a nice lacing. Yum malty, citrusy, aroma with a hint of spice and earthy notes. Taste of sweet caramel, orange peel, grapefruit, pineapple. Also a touch floral. Finishes with strong pine resin. Dry long lasting bitter aftertaste. Slick and smooth full body body. Great stuff.

This beer was advertised as being brand new to my area last week so I picked up a bomber. Shame on me for not checking the bottle date first (Oct 2012)--the hop aroma and taste had all but faded away, leaving a big boozy malt bomb. Very disappointing that my local would accept and sell an old DIPA like this. I would be willing to revisit but only if the bottle is very fresh.

Damn good beer if I say so myself. Had this on tap at Bailey's. Pours a deep copper colour with a modest white head. Nose is huge, hoppy and sweet. Taste is really rich and complex. Big caramel notes, ripe fruit and a giant hop punch to the brain.

A really clear and clean looking burnt gold with a nice rocky head. Smells are mostly caramel and almost barleywine like. Big rich mouthfeel with a nice low burn. Flavor is top of the line, sweet, hot, choppy citrus and resin.

A nice dark rusty pour with a nice thick head. Lacing was thick and lasted. Smell of citrus, especially grapefruit and floral. Flavor is lightly bitter with citrus flavor. A good brew.

I laughed when I read that this beer was 'fit for the Gods'. Universally ranked low on DIPA night, which was a disappointment as it was the hardest to get. Nice color, hoppy aroma with balance, but the taste was too malty for it to be competitive on DIPA night.

355 ml bottle. Poured a clear mahogany or ruby brown colored ale with a good two fingers slight beige milky creamy foamy head, with tons of micro bubbles, that had a long retention. Mid-sized carbonation. Great lacing. The aroma is a deep solid piney and resinous hoppy bitterness, spicy, licorice, fruity, ripe raisins, plums, figs. The flavour is flowery, violet and massive piney and citrus hops but the sweety malts are also present and the balance is a real success. The mouthfeel is creamy, crispy and very round. This full bodied ale has a lingering strong flowery hoppy bitter finish. A full tasting DIPA. Quite impressive!

Three month old 12 oz. single: Aroma consists of some big north west style hops and sweet malts along with a hint of soap. Amber-copper body, large head and heavy lacing. Big and malty, big and hoppy, very firm bitterness. It's a big beer all around. Citrus, pine, soap with a mild catty quality. Nuts, bread and caramel play a role as well.
