For those long-time Great Divide fans looking for this year’s commemorative, anniversary brew, the Wood-Aged Double IPA is here! A whopping EIGHTEEN years ago, founder Brian Dunn transformed an old dairy plant in a rundown neighborhood of Denver into a little brewery and called it Great Divide. After nearly two decades of producing some of the most aggressively hopped IPAs, rockstar stouts and unique interpretations on traditional old-world styles, Great Divide is considered by beer industry experts as one of the leading craft breweries in the country. They have won dozens of medals over the years and are consistently voted as one of the “Best Breweries in the World” by Ratebeer.com. The 18th Anniversary Wood-Aged IPA takes the signature characteristics (sweet caramel malt and floral hop aroma) of the fan-favorite Denver Pale Ale to the next level. Aged with both French and American oak chips, this strong ale has layers upon layers of flavors and is definitely one to share with friends and fellow GD fans! Enjoy! Now available in 22oz bottles and on draft.

Came out in March, so admittedly I'm going into this knowing it's too old. I do think the oak aging and strength will help, and they do, but I'm sure this was better fresher. More like a hoppy barley wine where the bitterness is there but the hops have little in the way of aromatics or even flavor. Ok...

Yes! This is more like it - lightly clouded copper-amber pour, tight beige head and very good lacing throughout. Nice heavy dank hop aroma, earthy, piney, even a touch of tropical, then some big oaksy woodiness, ooze of hops, some heavy caramel, HUGE nose for certain. Big dank hoppy flavor too, more pine, earthiness, and ripe citrus fruits, sweet dark caramel, heavy mouthfeel, dank and oozy, near resiny. Damn nice beer. Now I want more!

This pours a brownish golden color with a pretty decent off white cream head which leaves a lacing. The smells are of pine and citrus hops, some alcohol, a little vanilla. The feel is medium to maybe a little thick for an DIPA. The taste is pretty good, better than expected, more vanilla than in the nose, a nice amount of hop bitterness along with a little caramel on the way down, the wood is nicely balanced, not overwhelming. Overall a very nice DIPA.

Nice. Pours copper with a low thin tan head ring. Great lacing. Aroma is sweet malt and a bit of hops. Mouthfeel has a nice balance. Flavor is a bit smoky backed with sweet.

A light amber colored beer with a big frothy textured, light beige head. Has great hang time, settling eventually into thick splotches of film and thick ringlet. The profile in both nose and on the palate is a toned down, pleasantly so cornucopia of woodsiness, and citric hops. Well balanced and a good thirst quencher

Tempting, hoppy aroma has a strong overtone of fresh-cut green wood - kicked my salivary glands into high gear! It pours a rich, clear coppery amber with a thick and rather persistent pale buttery-tan head. Flavor is nothing short of sublime - quite strong, flooding the palate with wood and hops but only minimal bitterness, though the alcohol bite will wake you up. I detected subtle notes of caramel and apple. Texture has above-average body, a decent amount of fizz, and a good nip. This is a limited release, so catch it whilst you can!
