Rich in color with strong roasted flavor and creamy texture, the 56 Oatmeal Stout is a true dark beer lover's beer. Generous amounts of fresh rolled oats, paired with aromatic hops and richly roasted barley lead to unique coffee-like flavor. 56 refers to the year 1856 when the brewery was founded.

This one was served to me at Good Company in Appleton. The waitress set the bottle down on the table. When I asked for a glass she brought me a frosted pint tumbler... a Miller tumbler... At any rate, nice brown head though almost no lacing. Good chocolately flavor, though a little soda pop like, the flavor came and went and was actually better out of the bottle than in the glass. It's a good one to choose if most of your menu is the standard, MBC, typical exports and your other choice is Fat Tire or Leinies. Pretty good.

Thanks to BeerHunter for this one. Pours a dark, almost black color with a medium tan head. The aroma and taste are similar...mocha with a bit of smokey malts. I was disappointed in the lack of oatmeal flavor.

Brew pours a deep black opaque colour, with a thin tan head. Aroma is of coffee, dark chocolate and roasted malts. Full mouthfeel, creamy and flavors of Nestle hot chocolate, cofee, and maple syrup.

This sweet stout pours a eclipse black color from a 12oz bottle. Small sized beige foamy head, with good long lasting retention. Aroma is roasty malts, bitter chocolate and some vanilla. A medium bodied sweet stout. The malts are chocolate, coffee and roasty malts, there is some vanilla here as well. Nice balance. A very nice, very drinkable stout. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet with a touch of lactic sweetness

Poured dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of oats, malt and very light coffee and lighter chocolate. Flavor was much the same with the malty sweetness being more prominent. Not a bad oatmeal stout, but I've tried better.

Nice dark color. Light brown head with strong smell of oats and malt. Seems a little green to me. Slightly syrupy, sweet taste. Would like more coffee or chocolate flavor. Fairly thin in body.

This brew pours with a black body topped by a thin brown head with little lacing. The aroma is slightly sweet, roasty and malty with very slight notes of coffee and a touch of bitter smokiness. An odd meaty note is also observed. The flavor is slightly sweet and malty with a slight roastiness, a touch of coffee and an odd bitterness. The finish is slightly smokey and bitter. Full bodied and smooth.

Quite average for an oatmeal stout. Would be will to try other beers by this brewer, and would also try this again. Not bad, but there are lots better.
