Not what I expected from a porter. Maybe this was a bad or old bottle but I got a definite sourness in the aroma and flavor that muted everything else. None of the normal porter characteristics really showed thru. I might have to give it another try if I find a fresh bottle.

A lot sweeter than I was thinking for a porter but it was still very enjoyable. Pours a dark black color with an tan head. Aroma nuts, malts, caramel and the flavor is very sweet, maybe a little too much, but still enjoyable.

Root beer? Nah can't be. But it sure as hell tastes like it. Seriously this would be the ideal Beer float with some ice cream. John couldn't have been more right with his description. Easily could have passed for an English Brown Ale. Nothing about it tastes like a porter. Nutty, caramel and cinnamon notes. Aroma is pretty bland with some metallicy notes and smoke. Back to the drawing board Grays!

This would be just an average beer, if it were an American Brown Ale or an English Mild. It's billed as a Porter, however, so I'll review it as such. Pours a weak caramel color with a short-lived off-white head. Aromas aim for toast and nuts but only achieve stale wet cardboard. Light-to-medium bodied with a much too thin palate. No complexity or richness of flavors at all, just light toasted caramel malt and bland nuts with a metallic finish. Fails miserably as a Porter; there should be a Lhasa Apso on the label instead of a Bulldog. Why do I think this was created as a session beer for the martini crowd at Gray's Tied House?
